One thing I found with my 2.5-10 PST is that although the illumination is almost invisible in bright conditions, it's more than adequate when the sun drops a bit. I use this scope for hunting coyotes when most of my time afield is late afternoon or during the night. When me eyes get used to the changing (dropping) light conditions, I find I don't need to dial up the reticule near as much.
For me, this seems like a no-brainer. During the bright hours, you don't really need illumination. Unless the reticule of the 1-4 is only visible under power... I see no issue. I'll be dropping one on my other CQC (close quarters coyote) rifle as soon as the funds become available... AND I can find a mil/mil version.
In my eyes.... Another touchdown for Vortex!! As always... YMMV.
(Now if my 4-16 would finally ship I'd be doing back flips!! Which... Says a lot about this old fart.
