Hey guys. Looking for tips on keeping my 556 and 300 blackout mags separate. What little tricks do you guys do. Not too worried about loading the wrong mag at the range bc I always check my mags but if the world decided to come to an end in the middle of the night other than feeling the billet size with my nail, if it was dark it would be hard to tell a difference. Was honking about putting some of my hockey tape around the blackout mags. Anyone have better ideas

Paint a ring of this on the 300 mags.. it's more permanent.

I buy different color mags.
Green tip is one color, soft nose another, range ammo another.

I don't have a 300 blackout and I used colored duct tape to identify my bullet weights. I have 1/9" and 1/7" twists. I use red for 77gr, yellow for XM193, Lime green for 62gr LAP, Blue for 64gr Speer, and Orange for Speer 75gr.

I am planning on making a stencil to spray on the mags when I finally go 6.5G. That will not do much good in a dark environment though. I like the Plastidip idea. I also like the idea of the old 'friction' tape or skateboard sandpaper decals. Something nice and tactile in addition to visual.

I use Lancer smoke color for 300BLK and Lancer clear color for 300BLK Subsonic. Anything else is for 5.56.

This. Also put same color tape on upper (little square of it) to match mags for my new shooter and dumb friends (green for 300BLK, red for 6.5G, nothing for 5.56 and if they can fit the 308 mags into a 5.56 lower, they win)

I don't own a 300 blackout but I use a a Dymo label maker to label the various bullet weight mags (77 grain, green tip, etc)

Labels on .300AAC upper in three places.

Labels on mags.

Of course, buy the tactical black labels!!!

I wrap barbed wire around my 300BO mags. 5.56 mags stay smooth.

30 rd = 5.56 (for the most part)
20 rd = 300 Blk (marked as well)
Just makes sense to me with heavy subs.

All my 5.56 mags are from the same mfg. and in basic black.

My .300blk mags are either 'oddball' 5.56 mags or Lancers (translucent FDE) or D&H .300 mags. All the black .300 mags are painted tan and marked '.300bo'. When I painted my D&H mags I masked the '.300' logo with a sticky target dot.

I paint all my 'variant' AR mags with color, tan for .300, red for 5.45x39, green for 7.62x39. Easiest way for me to identify them when fishing for one out of my range bag.

And I still give the top rounds a quick glance before loading...just in case. And I store my caliber specific mags separately as well.

This may be obvious, but I don't paint the part of the mag that seats in the magwell, just what shows. Tons of tips in the refinishing section on how to get crazy with a rattlecan finish, all my rough surplus AK mags sport a different paint scheme now. Just call me 'Michelange-low-and-to-the-left'...

My bo mags have mag bands for supers and subs I got off eBay. My bo guns also have same bands around the magwell

I just write 300BLK with paint pen on both sides of the mag

You could try our mags with our colored RRS parts.

Run different colors for different loads. High vis colors are the fastest and easiest way for your brain to identify something.

FDE for 300 blk. Rifle is also FDE. 5.56 is black or gray mags and black rifle. AR10 in 308 is FDE but that's easy to distinguish from FDE AR 15. Plan for AR10 in 6.5 Creedmoor and it will be black.

ETS I really want to try one of your AR mags, can't find any locally...want to handle first before buying. Your Glock mags look great.

PMAGS for my Blackout. It's a pistol and it all stays in a soft sided case. I also put different colored tape on the mag's for bullet type.

.223 is metal mags.

Not sure what to do with my two daughters' AR's that I am getting ready to build.

I put a band of yell duct tape around the bottom of my .300 BO mags.

Since the RZE mags don't work, I'll do red. On my ,moded 5.45 PMags.

I only have 5.56 and .300 BLK rifles and how I keep my mags separate is that I use ETS mags for .300 BLK only. It would be impossible for me to mix up my ammo in the wrong rifles. Just dedicate a mag brand and set it as a one caliber only like what I did.

I used gi / pmag for 556, and lancer and ETS for 300. Pretty easy to follow. If it's clear / translucent it's 300 blk.

There are a few varieties of these now for sale online.

I have about 30 mags dedicated now to my 300 blackout with a similar style to these on them. Over on the 300 blackout forum there is a guy who sells them. They are tagged red for supers and green for subs.

I take one of the silver sharpies for my Blackout, 6.8, and 277. Cheap and you can write where it is hidden if you want.
