Hello all, new to the forum. I was in a local military surplus store and ran across a metal h&k ar15 mag. It had the restricted markings on it and a tan worn paintjob, looked like it had came from Iraq or Afghanistan. They wanted 40 bucks for it. Is that high for a used h&k mag? I've heard bad stuff about the metal h&k mags but don't know any thing about them or have any experience with them.
Thanks for the help and info

They're heavy and don't last as long as a aluminum GI. Pass.

No reason to poke around at surplus stores picking through junk.

Buy legit g.i. mags (Okay, Center, Brownells) or Gen M2 or M3 Pmags.

You can only own that mag if you are a tier 1 operator operating

Actually they are excellent mags but overpriced.  However if you go on our own E&E you will find them for around 20 bucks used.  I have a bunch and re-sprined them with Wolfe springs and they are very dependable.
They are heavy so I use them at a the range and have Colt and OK mags in my go bag.

Two reasons the U.S. Military dropped them...

Wear springs
Improper Heat Treating on the feed lips resulting in them spreading which in turn results in the dreaded Type III malfunction.

I have over two dozen of them and have never had a bit of trouble out of any of them. However I much prefer the Lancer AWM's.
