Are there any noticeable differences between these two other than the Gen 2 being cheaper? Which would you prefer? I'm stocking up on Gen 2 because they're cheaper, trying to decide if it's worth getting a few Gen 3's

Never hear of any problems with gen 2's. That cannot be said about gen 3's.

Then again I could say the opposite based on my observations on this forum and other places.

When it comes to these magazines, I prefer the Gen 3, but considering the reputation of the Gen 2 the reduced price is attractive. It really just comes down to how much you want to spend. The Gen 3s, by the way, are supposed to be better in every way.

I like, use, prefer and still buy M2's and will continue to until they are no longer made.  The M2's have been an outstanding magazine in my experience the only thing I don't really care for is that they fit pretty tight in GI double mag pouches. However, I deal with it due to the magazine's outstanding performance.  The juice is worth the squeeze on Pmags.  I have never used the M3's.  Magpul gives you the info on their mags right on their sight brother that spells out the differences pretty well IMHO.  The M3's are basically improved from what I have read.  Edited to add content.

Out-of-the-bag Gen 3 30rd Pmags won't drop free from my DPMS and PSA lowers. Gen 2 mags fall right out.

Gen 3s have bolt-closed loading issues in a lot of ARs. Gen 2s usually don't.

Main differences are aesthetics and a few geometry changes to offer better functionality in weapons such as the 416 and M27 IAR, I'm guessing specs similar to the EMAG.  Maybe Magpul will swing by and let us know.

Gen 2's work just fine so save a few bucks.  Personally, I prefer GI mags in the 20 rd. range.

I like both however all my loaded mags for long term storage are ALL M3 pmags. I feel they are stronger and they come with the dust covers that I dont have to buy separately.

Sweet, the dot matrix area slipped my mind.  I figured it was best to see if you guys would reply since you make them compared to most of our conjecture

We had some issues with early 20 round M3 PMags and this was fixed in tooling some time ago, so new manufacture mags are fine.

Anyone with an effected magazine can contact us directly for a replacement.

I recently bought a 6 pack of the M3 Pmags, and absolutely love them in my AR15 which I built. They drop free and lock in just fine with the bolt in battery. Fit and finish, and overall feel is excellent. I have an Okay Industries G.I. mag from when I was in the Army, which used to be all I would use, but over time they all got worn, except 1. So I still have and use it now that I am out. But it stays on the back burner and only gets used to segregate ammo. Eventually I will buy some more M3 Pmags, and the G.I. will go even further back in the pile.

P.S. sub 20" < 20" AR/M16 :p

I like that the base plate is smaller.

Thats the only thing that makes them better than G2.

DPMMN, how much experience do you have with the forties?  I bought a few but haven't had a chance to run 'em yet.

I prefer the gen 2 but own and love both gen 2 and gen 3. Would be cool to find a gen 1 so I can make some sort of BRD display in my room to piss off my gf
