I found this on youtube this morning, I found it interesting

Anyway, enjoy and discus I've always used the rule of 10 pistol mags and 20 rifle mags as a bare minimum

This man speaks the truth.

And it has nothing to do with what I "need" but rather with what I "want"....

ETA...always loved this vid....

i thought it was 10 mags per gun/rifle

It does not matter. Just remember one rule, "when they are cheap, stack 'em deep".

Simple. If you are asking the question "do I need more magazines". The answer is yes.

As many as you can afford if they ever get banned you won't have anything to worry about, if they don't get banned as long as you bought them at reasonable prices you can always sell them.  Look at them as an investment.

I've got 60-ish AR mags for four rifles and I feel pretty good. Good enough that my buy it price point right now is $5 per mag.

I bought quite a few during the ban and a wicked lot after the sunset. I bought as many as I had space for. I'd like more 20s rounders but with 30 rounders being less expensive it's been difficult to stomach the higher price of 20s.

I grab a couple at every gun show I go to.  Picked up two windowed FDE PMAGs last weekend.  Next time I hit a show, I'm going to buy a couple USGI mags (unless I come across some 20 round straight PMAGs).

Hmmm, after reading this I came to the conclusion that I may need some Lancers... who has a good deal on them?

DSG has got $11 windowed 30 round foliage green pmags going right now. Not bad if you just want to pick up a few extra

I used to go with the 10/20 rule but for a hi-cap pistol, 5 should be enough. 10 for a normal eight round pistol.

I go the other way.  I have 12 per AR but have 20-30 per handgun.  I shoot handguns A LOT more than rifles though.

ETA: Handgun magazines are more specialized than AR magazines.  I would trust multiple brands of magazines for my AR's but with Glock/S&W/etc. I really only trust factory magazines.

I have way more than I need, but do not pass up any good deals.

With my four AR I've got about 100 mags, around 2/3 are USGI type aluminum D&H 30 rd mags, my most used ready to go mags have Wolff extra power springs and Magpul Ranger plates, other spares have standard SS springs and L-plates, and all of them have Magpul gen 3 followers.

My other 1/3 of my mag stash are polymer PMAG and Lancer L5/ AWM, so I'm good at about 25 30 rd mags per rifle, also got some 20 rd (a dozen) which I mainly use on the bench.

But I'm still short on my AK, Galil, Steyr AUG, and Colt type 9mm mags, so I'm getting them a little at a time when I usually buy gun parts and accessories.

I also need a few more (5 each) of my pistols Glock, HK, Sig, and 10rd 1911 .45 mags, need around 10 - 12 each it never ends.

Magazines have a finite life. They possibly also have a finite life based in politics.

I pick at min one every time I'm at a gun shop. Guy that comes to the local gun shows does a 5 pmag for $50. I do that every time. My wife things the tickets to the show are $60.

That's weird. Literally my situation, exactly, on the rifle stuff. Pistol stuff, I'm in better shape. As jlficken said I use my pistols more than my rifles, and so - since they get a lot more use & wear - I want an accordingly large number of magazines to go with them.

Magazines take up the entire top shelf of my 42 gun safe...and I have more stashed in ammo cans and dresser drawers.  I'm still buying magazines.

I guess the real question is 'How long you plan on fighting before you win?'  Once you know the answer, you can get a better idea how many mags.

Haha nice.

As many as you can carry loaded I guess would be a good start.

The only time I have less than 10 is when it's for one of my oddball guns, and mags are scarce. I've only got 5 factory mags for my French MAB P-15.  Same for my 10MM Star Megastar. I won't waste my money on repros.

Otherwise, it's stack 'em deep.
