This is my first post, so bare with me. Been shooting, collecting, and loving firearms for 6 years now!

So heres the deal, I was supposed to go to the range with some friends a couple months back and loaded up all my mags (30 PMAGS 30rds, 10 Colt 20rds, and 20 C Products 40 rds) but our plans got canceled and i was too lazy to unload all the mags so i just tossed them in a box and set them aside. Well i forgot about them and didn't go shooting my ARs at all for a while. Now, every now and then i would hear a weird "Ping" sound while sitting at home, watching TV, doing whatever, and couldn't figure out what it was.

Well, just got back from shooting and found that 19/20 of the C Product mags had broken springs (Some were BRAND NEW) and all the rest were perfectly fine! I heard leaving mags loaded for a long time was fine, but this was just under 2 months. Given, I did load them to capacity, but didn't think much of it.

Is it all 40+rd mags that have this problem? Are C Product mags just really cheaply built? Maybe a bad batch? My dad gave me 3 old metal bushmaster mags that have been loaded since before i was born that he found in the garage and the springs were still decent (Not perfect tension, but no FTF with them).

Think C Products will replace the springs? I contacted them and I'm waiting back. I paid $25 for most and $50 for a few during Obama Ban 2013, wish i would have stocked up on more PMAGS but you win some you lose some. I hear ProMag mags decent 42 rd mags for around $10.

C Products or C products defense? If the prior they
are no longer in business. I am guessing you have stainless

C Products mags.

I thought it was the same company, they say "C Products LLC Newington, CT" on the floorplate.

Not the same. That co went out of business.

Think ASC bought out C Products from what I read. ASC seems to be on a mission to improve the products that they put out.

The older C Products is shit I had 8 30 rounders I bought and only used shooting from the bench gently changing mags and laying them on the table ect. One of them became out of spec and wouldn't feed after a couple rounds in a rifle that had Absolutly zero issues in over 3k rounds. I threw the fucked up one away and sold the rest. Pmags and usgi only for me.

OP, tread lightly bro.  There are guys here that had good luck with them, and well.......others did not.

That company was really a sham.  There was Larry the owner, and a guy named Chad that worked there.  They played like there was nothing but a business there, but Chad was in fact his son.

At one point in time, they would replace any problem mags, for free, and took care of stuff fairly ok.  Then one day, the shell game was over, and they lost the company to the guys that used to coat their mags.  Enter in ASC.

I personally have a bunch of their 20 rd. aluminums, and they have been great.  As for a 40, I am not sure where you could get a spring.  Maybe Wolf?  I will say, that their springs have always been inconsistant, and unimpressive to me.  Good luck.

Pro-Mag is hit or miss... mostly miss but you never know. (Does VA not have a casino?)

Springs at Brownells. They're no cheap but they won't break

The 40 rounders were the only good mags they put out.  I guess there were some good 20 rounders but the 40's were great.  The 30 rounders were hit and miss, mostly miss.

If you have bad 40 rounders I would call that rare.

This whole thing with the broken springs got me all paranoid and now i don't want to leave any mags fully loaded for and extended period, not just AR mags but any mags.
Doesn't look like they are willing to do anything, seeing how it isn't quite the same company, and i cant find extended springs anywhere. Oh well, i guess i could always experiment with them and cut them down, put the broken springs in them and weld the floor shut. Sure they wont be very reliable, but they would have that "Redneck Repair" look to it that could be kinda funny to show off.

I only use them for plinking and having fun anyways, and they might match my Rem 870 with a half inch of duct tape around the stock (Got knocked out of a tree stand, too cheap to buy a new stock and it kinda looks cool taped up)

You can get replacement springs from brownell's & elsewhere for around $3 each; would be simpler & likely a more reliable end product than going all Larry the Cable Guy on them.

As far as leaving magazines loaded long-term, there's very little risk if using quality magazines. I personally download my AR mags by two rounds each, but only because that's the way I've been doing it for 30+ years - lots of people and lots of agencies load rifle magazines to capacity with no problems at all.

The brownells link above has 40rd magazine springs.  C-Products never had a good reputation.  Normally the 40 round bodies were decent though.

Mags are cheap, buy new quality mags and don’t waste money trying to make crap mags work.

The Truth.

If there is a future mag ban you will be glad that you have QUALITY magazines vs. cobbled together shit.

Can you post pics of the broken springs?  I'd be interested to see where exactly they failed.

Most C-Products stuff is poor quality and not at all indicative of how quality magazines would hold up.  They were the flavor of the month for a while here because they offered cheap prices, posted on the forums, and returned products easily.  Then they sold the company or something and disappeared, leaving tons of people with garbage magazines with no avenue to get them replaced.  You should remember the C-Products story any time arfcom gets infatuated with a web based firearms dealer known for very low prices and hit/miss quality.

I remember several years ago when this board was all about Larry and the c products mags.... Things change quickly. I've been using them for a long time and they've been fine for me.

FAD's come and go.  I've had good success with his 6.8, 7.62x39 and 40rd 5.56 mags.  A few years ago there weren't many options for those.  I had one of his 30rd GI style mags that refused to feed ammunition.  It was right after they copied Magpul's follower design.  Their proprietary follower was hanging up on the rough insides of their magazine and causing the mag to bind.  Worked fine after I dropped a green follower in it.

I wouldn't use their 5.56 mags for anything but range mags.

The 40s were great.

The 6.8mags are good.

It's a Shame that things went down the way they did but people made choices.

ASC who bought C products mags are generally questionable as far as finish but the still work 100% for me. I believe C Products stood for "cheap products" if the bodies are good I see no issue with replacing the sprigs with quality springs

ROFL, yeah I was one of the early dissenters...  I had something called eyeballs which I quickly confirmed with calipers and a straight edge.   Esp when the Stainless mags came out, I could see the damn things were off when they were still in the bag.

Still got shouted down for being a non believer.
