AR 15 Colt 5 round mag holds 9 rounds? I just picked up this new 5 round Colt mag at a gunshow, for legal deer hunting. I started putting bullets in it, and it took 9 before it was full. What is the problem?

I showed it to a friend of mine, who knows a bit about ar's, he said it's for sure the same size as his 5 round mag.

Look like a john masen mag. They come in 5 and 9 round. Follower difference.

Says steel but the one I bought years ago was aluminum. Came with both followers back then.

I thought the Colt ones that style were 9 round magazines?

Can't say the reviews of either on the web sites look great.

I bought a package with two of those and some other Colt items. They are 9 round magazines. I have a factory Colt 5 round, and it has a flat base.

They sure do.

But if you replace the follower with one from a 30 rd mag it magically holds only 5.
