Which brands are specifically good to go?
What is range fodder? And what should be avoided like the plague? (I know, everyone is going to say pmag. They are gtg, but I have more than a few, these are just to throw into reserve) |

IMHO
GTG [Modern]: Colt NHMTG D&H OKay Brownells Known Turds: Sanchez Potential Turds: ASC [improved quality has been discussed here] - I use their grendel magazines, with a few feeding issues C-Products [some love them, others not so much, lots of threads debating their quality] - I have their grendel magazines, and prefer them over ASC Stoner [just internet rumblings, I own some, but I haven't used them] just one shooters .02 |

My Thermolds are tough as nails and 0% failure through lots of rounds.

Center makes decent mags, not as nice as Okay but they work.
Pro-mags are trash. |

Reason I asked about USGI mags is that they are easier to store in bulk. No ridges on the sides to get caught on other mags, nor to add unneeded bulk. |

Can someone tell me where Okay Ind mags can be purchased? 'aside from the EE I mean) I've never seen them sold by any dealers??? They are somewhat difficult to find as Okay is their Military sales division. They do show up new in the package from time to time. NHMTG & Colt are both Okay brand. |

USGI Magazines look junky for the most part, but they work extremely well! The brand NHMTG actually sends their mags to Colt who then stamps them with their name if they meet Colt's specs. So when it comes to prices, Colt mags will generally cost you $2-$5 more than NHMTG mags when they are essentially the same exact thing.
All in all I have a few NHMTG and Colt mags and they work extremely well (Especially when upgraded with magpul followers). |

Actually, the stamping occurs during the multi step manufacturing process, NOT after Colt receives them. And every Colt I've seen has Okay stamped to the inside, not NHMTG. It appears that Okay Industries sells their magazines to Ronan Corporation who markets them as NHMTG. BTW, NHMTG is not a current approved supplier to the U.S. Military even though Colt & Okay Industries are. |

I got rid of all my "improved follower" Brownell and Okay after I couldn't get a single one to lock on a closed bolt when loaded to 28-30. After I couldn't get them to lock in my DD, PSA's or Sig's I couldn't justify keeping them and sold them off for what I had picked them up for and got more D&H and NHMTG/Okay USGI with the Magpul green follower.

In the link to AR15.com that I previously shared (Link) A quote from rob78, "They're [COLT magazines are] made by Okay Ind. which I understand makes NHMTG (one of the best GI mags IMO). You pay a premium for the meaningless pony. I say pass and pick up NHMTG, OKay, CProducts, D&H for half the cost. ETA: Never used Bravo Co. mags so I can't comment on them." Here is the NHMTG mag site where they give minimal information on the magazines Here is a AR15 forum where they talk about the history of NHMTG All in all, what do you see? Okay mags provides material for Colt (which we agree on) and NHMTG. This means that they are the same thing, only one is cheaper and does not have a horse on it. I did not try to come off as a jerk, I was telling you all what I understood and facts point to be true. |

I like the Brownells "Tactical" 30rd mags with CS springs and Magpul followers. I think they run around $13 each on the website. I usually stick to branded mags from reputable companies like BCM, DSG and Brownells. Nice to know if you get a turd the company will make good on it.
I avoid used USGI mags unless I can get them dirt cheap. You never know what type of use and/or abuse the mags have taken and its usually cheaper to buy a new mag from BCM ect than to rebuild a used one. |

Sir, I brought to you evidence. The other gentleman brought to you his experience from his home town. You fail to recognize either. At this point, even if you are right (which I still believe you are not), you have lost all legitimacy in your argument by tainting them with insults and your own emotion. Calm down, take a deep breath, and realize that you may in fact be incorrect. It is not the end of the world. This forum isn't about arguing and disputing things that really don't matter in the end, it is about entertainment. We went off on a tangent about how NHMTG, Okay, and Colt are the same/different. In reality, take off the base plates, take off the stamps, do you think you will be able to identify which is which? No. Do those stamps add reliability? No. Those stamps only mean that they met a standard of some form (depending on which company they came from). We are comparing apples to apples here. Whether they are golden delicious, granny smith, or Macintosh, they all serve the same purpose and do it just as well as the other. If I had my way, I would suggest MagPul mags any day of the week. Why? Not because I have seen any better reliability (because I have yet to see a magazine be the reason behind a jam in my many years of shooting the M16/M4/AR15 platform), but because they look better in my opinion. |

13er's
As was pointed out ALSO by JBclark84, you are WRONG! Firefoxammo showed he didn't even have a basic understanding of how magazines are manufactured, AND to insinuate that ASC is involved in the production of USGI approved magazines THAT is the dumbest thing I have EVER heard! A friend of mine Matt Cammenga designed the Cammenga Easymag. It takes multiple stamping operations to manufacture a magazine. AND you start with a flat sheet of "sheet metal", NOT something "prefabed" (NOT my misspelling, just quoting) |

ASC and Okay industries both have manufacturing facilities in New Britian Ct.. That is the only thing they have in common.
As stated before Okay=Colt=NHMTG. The only difference is the floorplate and maybe the follower. Okay marked mags have the military follower, the NHMTG marked mags have magpul followers. I own both of these mags, but not the Colt marked mags so I cannot comment on any differences the Colt Mags may have. All of these mags are made by Okay industries. Mike |
