The CS springs can be scrubbed using something like WD-40 or CLP and Scothbrite till you get to clean metal.
Anything like kerosene would work too. You just need something to flush that rust as you go. Thinner hydrocarbon is better than thicker for this. Even IPA would work. If you are in a very corrosive environment, I would hit them with a light coat of anti-corrosion spray lube. The silicone content of the metal in the spring is not the same meaning as silicone based lube. So, if you want some lubricant in there, apply some Dri-Slide (Graphite and MoS2) or PTFE based dry lubricant if what you want is dry. If you want them lubed wet, then go for it. http://www.scotch-brite.com/wps/portal/3M/en_US/Scotch-BriteBrand/Scotch-Brite/Products/Product-Catalog/~/Heavy-Duty-Scour-Pad?N=5941685&loc=en_US&plmlblid=1319209952481&rt=rud |
