I have some of each round and both perform very well as far as accuracy.   I wanted to pick up some additional ammo, and wasn't sure which one was better for home defense.

I don't need a barrier defeating ammo, so give then, which one would you choose to buy more of an why?

I have a good bit of the TAP FPD 75 gr ammo in .223, so I didn't know if getting the 5.56 loading from Hornady would do much differently at less than 100 yards than the .223 does.

TAP and TAP FPD is topped with a different pill, as well as the load.
TAP would be the choice of the two for me.
I went a different rout but not what you asked.

I think I would try both in my rifle and get the one that does the best for the ranges I would use it at.

I have used Tap 2 on coyotes from a 20 inch out to 200yards and it is very effective.

The BH 77gr is more accurate than the T2 in all my guns. By maybe .75 MOA.

I have always read that the T2 has fantastic unobstructed terminal affects and is better than the 77gr.

For close range, home defense and under 100 yards, I would pick the T2.

@CovertChannels

do you find that the Black Hills 77gr and the Hornady 75gr shoot to the same point of impact, or are they noticeably different trajectories?

I dont know if they have similar point of impact as I use T2 in 1:9 rifles and CBC 77 grain in 1:8.

When I reloaded the 75 I had moly coated Hornadys and only shot moly in that barrel.

One advantage of T2 is it stablizes in 19

I would choose the Hornady. The 5.56 does matter, the neck decreases drastically the faster those heavy BTHPs are pushed.

I think you should look at the 77gr TMK for what you're describing.

If you don't want to search high and low just grab some Hornady Black 223 75gr, its like $14-15 at the big box stores. That's what I have in my rifle at the moment.

Usually the Hornady is more accurate up close but the long range accuracy and BC of the 77gr makes it a better choice at distance.

The 75 is undoubtedly the better terminal performer.

75 T2 (different bullet than 75 match bullet) has both a shorter neck and holds together better than 75 bthp match and 77 smk bthp. The 77 TMK 5.56 Black Hills loading has an even shorter neck, better BC (less wind drift), and performs at longer ranges. For example, when the T2 stops fragmenting at 250 yards, the TMK will perform at 350 yards. This improved hit percentage and longer range of ideal terminal effectivness is a game changer. It's also better at close range due to the sub 1" neck and not relying on yaw to create the initial fragmentation plus expanded base. The only thing I have not seen for the TMK yet is barrier performance vs 75 T2. I know T2 beats the others, but is still a poor barrier round. If TMK is at least as good as T2 it will completely replace T2 in my ammo stores and duty mags.
