Probably been beat to death but all the posts I have found have been from 2014 and 15.  Seems most like the wolf as it is a more like a 5.56 round.  Is this info still good or is something better that is around 300 bucks per 1000?

Thanks for any info,

Rob

Wolf Gold is loaded hotter (5.56 spec) than PMC Bronze (commercial .223 spec) so that's what I'd go with

I've read Wolf Gold is made in the same manufacturing plant as their military ammunition, therefore it is produced to great standards. It's practically a 5.56 disguised as a .223 Rem. With the sealed primers, almost spot on with velocity and pressure, crimped bullet seat, and so on. Brass is amazingly clean and the rounds fire smooth. I was in your same shoes a few months ago, looking for a great round for a bargain. Wolf Gold is certainly it. You make me want to up my cache another 1k right now haha. Check out SGAmmo, going for like $279/case without ammo can, $289/case with ammo can. Solid deal man.

I would buy whatever is cheaper or more convenient. It's not like one is match ammo or premium self defense ammo, and the other isn't. They're both brass cased 55 grain FMJ. Wolf is rated 50 fps faster.

Wolf Gold is more accurate and cleaner.

This is my experience, also.  I'm a retro collector/shooter so I go through a lot of 55gr ammo and for about 5 years stacked PMC Bronze for general plinking/playing.  Then I tried the Wolf Gold when I found it in the same price range and found it noticeably more accurate.  Not a LOT more accurate, but noticeably.  I consider it 2 to 2.5 MOA ammo.
Just picked up 2k rounds for $500 locally.  I'm thrilled to see prices coming down again.  Finally.

I find the Gold, manufactured in Taiwan, superior in all aspects to the PMC.

Thanks for the replies guys.  I ordered the wolf a few minutes ago.

Thanks,

This is true for my gun.  I have had very good luck with the Wolf Gold out to 200 yards.

Both are reliable for me. I'd go with whichever brand was cheaper.

How about CBC mil contract M193 packaged in sealed pouches in an ammo can for the same price as Wolf Gold

Is it as good as, or better than, Wolf Gold?  Who makes it?

I just got thorough doing side by sides with a bunch of loads, including PMC Bronze and Wolf Gold. You can find the results in this thread. --Scroll past the individual results to the 5th post that summarizes the velocities out of the different barrel lengths.

TL/DR: Wolf gold was quite a bit faster.

If you've been following the Knights Armament/Lake City on-going discussion in the Uppers/Lowers section, you may have noticed that Knights has found PMC bronze to be very consistent from round to round in their testing....fwiw.

While you shouldn't discount all of the positive reports you are reading about the Wolf Gold, we had some trouble. Two of our three ARs ran the ammo fine.  The third, and Adams Arms rifle, had trouble with the ammo getting stuck in their chamber, both prior to firing and after. The chamber was so tight it caused problems.

So you might try a small lot and make sure there are no problems prior to stocking up.

Wouldn't this make it a rifle problem, not a Wolf Gold problem?

WTf... that's a good deal. How do you get such a deal?

I was shooting some PMC bronze before the wolf got here and had one round that sounded light.  I worked the bolt and the case came out.  Neck was split and it didn't have enough energy to eject itself.  That's the only one so far but glad the bullet cleared the barrel.

The only load I have ever had disable a rifle (primer popped out and bound the bolt) was PMC.  Happened twice.
Decades ago this was called Poorly Made Crap for a reason.

Velocity Wise CBC > Wolf Gold > PMC Bronze and even PMC X-TAC

I just noticed that on the Wolf Gold site they have separate listings for .223 and 5.56mm.  Has anyone ever seen the WG 5.56?

I have 3000 of wolf gold 5.56 still in battle packs.  It is loaded by PPU with extruded powder and had issues in Rifle length carbines.  Have not seen any in a long time.

Can you post a picture of the Wolf Gold 5.56 made in Taiwan?

I have gotten a lot of Wolf Gold in .223 but I have not seen the Taiwan 5.56 version just the .223 made in Taiwan version.

AFAIK there is no "5.56" version of WOLF GOLD.  It's all marked as .223 manuf in Taiwan.  I think the only thing keeping it from being 5.56 is the velocity/pressure.  Everything else about it screams military ammo.  Crimped neck and primer.   Pretty sure it's sealed as well.

Hmmm interesting they show only 10fps difference between .223 and 5.56 on the site.  I haven't seen any 5.56 on any of the ammo websites I visit.

Lol at that 10 fps increase with 5.56 over .223

I like both and I agree with PMC being damned consistent. It's not the hottest but it doesn't claim to be either as it's boxed as .223... I'll take consistency over a 100fps any day! YMMV...
