I wondering if the Mk 262 (or 5.56 77 gr OTM as its labeled) is any more accurate than the blue box 77 gr 223. I've heard the Mk 262 is faster by about 100 fps out of the barrel, but I'm wondering if you will notice an accuracy difference?

Anyone have experience with both? Comparison?

Thanks

The blue box should be a hair more accurate, but every barrel will be different.

The MK262 is new ammo, the blue box is reloaded.  They both use the SMK 77gr OTM bullet.  Both are very good choices, might buy a box or two of each and see which one your setup likes.

I should add I have a WOA 18" SPR Barrel and have shot about 40 rounds of the 223 blue box 77 through my gun and its been the best performer of any ammo I've tried. Consistently sub Moa if I do my part and frankly I think it and the gun are capable of 3/4 Moa or better consistently if I can just do my part.

I can get blue box on sale right now for 69.5 cents per round and the Mk 262 on sale now for 80 cents per round. Is the Mk 262 worth the extra cost?

I know it can vary from barrel to barrel but for those that have shot both, was one better than the other or about the same?

Thanks

Unless you are shooting people I don't think the MK 262 is worth it, its not likely to perform better than the BB 77gr, although the velocity could help a little if shooting towards the max range of .223

I guess the cost difference is in the application.  I tried both out of my service rifle, with Iron sights at 600 yards I couldn't tell a difference, shooting an average of 194 @ 600.  I shot Blue Box 77gr across the course for a couple of years and was always in the running.  If I were shooting F-class I might re-examine the difference or load my own at that point.

What is the optimum twist rate for a 16" barrel using the 75 or 77 grain?

Thanks in advance...

1/7 or 1/8 will do the trick

Yes I like shooting some 77s at 5-600m so I like the cheaper but slightly less accurate IMI. 200 or even 300m and less no big deal. Still its hard to beat 60cent a shot IMI 77g.

IMI 77gr are a good choice too.  I've taken shots with hand loaded 75gr out to 700m with my 11.5" SBR... it just takes awhile to hit the target
