hello all,

I have been considering giving Speer's .223 Gold Dot, 64 grain, a run in my AR, and in my bolt action. Just wondered if anyone has experiences they would like to share about this round, and especially it's performance at longer ranges (200 yds+) does it group well? I have heard mixed opinions. I know it's a formidable defense round but am curious about the bullets accuracy one it's gets out there a bit...

any thoughts??... thanks floidb

I don't know, yet. I ordered some the other day and I'm going to try it out when I can. I can only shoot to around 250 yards, so that's not really long range.

It shoots pretty well:

Just 7 shots though:

I get around 1.5 - 2" at 100yd from Federal Fusion (same projectile) from BCM BFH 14.5 and BCM std 16 uppers, fwiw. I don't view it as a "precision" round but fine for hunting at that distance.

I'm not a super great shooter but for what it's worth I have noticeably better results with Hornady 75 gr Match than with Gold Dots but like others said, it's not inaccurate.

I shot the 62 grain fusion out to 600 yards from a 18" barrel.  Is definitely accurate enough to hit a man size target at that distance!
