Yeah, I read as much on here before, but just incase anyone is wondering if ZQI has improved at all...

Fired out of a Colt LE901-16SE, it had a failure to feed about every five rounds average. As best I could tell, the ZQI was sending the BCG far enough back to extract, but not enough to strip a fresh round from the magazine. Also had one serious failure to extract involving a stuck round that I had to let the bolt slam down on it twice before a good enough grip was made to extract it. Seemed to be in there damn tight, so I'm guessing an out of spec casing.

Magazines used were a KAC 20 round SR-25 magazine, Lancer L7 AWM, and a PMAG LR 20. Had regular failures to feed out of all three. For reference, on the same range trip and same rifle, a couple hundred rounds were fired of a mixture of Federal GMM 168 and 175, as well as PRVI Partizan M80 ball, also using all three magazines. Everything non-ZQI functioned without issue both before and after shooting the ZQI, out of all three magazine types. I was not present for it, but my cousin reported his Sig 716 performed pretty much the same as the Colt 901 when he was firing ZQI M80 from the same batch.

Interestingly enough, the SR-25 APC fed the ZQI without issue. Don't know if that was luck, or the proprietary gas system tolerates ZQI's erratic performance better.

Findings: Yes, Turkish ammo is still shit.

UPDATE 1/23/2017

Since this keeps getting responses and I was going back to the range, tried a new batch of ZQI. Zero failures to feed throughout range day, although accuracy was still meh. Same mags, same Colt 901 rifle, same range, and same shooter.

It's looking like I got a batch of underpowered ammo last month. New stuff was by all appearances GTG. Good to know, but at the same time, doesn't inspire confidence in their QC.

You had better luck then me, mine FTF every round in two different rifles. I will say it was damned accurate though. Right about 1.5 moa at 100 yards. Glad I only bought 3 boxes, I was considering stocking up on it. Prvi is almost as accurate but it works so that's what I'm buying.

I think its your rifles and the notorious AR10/308 AR finicky build syndrome.  Have you done a complete check on the internals to insure they are operating properly?  What were the strikes like?

my rig eats zqi, never had an issue with it, wolf, nothing I've put through it

My DSA SA58 needed the gas turned all the way up to reliably cycle with ZQI.

Winchester white box and Magtech run fine about half closed.

My finicky LR308 is as finicky with it as any other ammo I've tried.
My good LR308 doesn't have any problems with it.

Runs fine out of my SCAR, accurate enough to hit a 12" plate @ 200 offhand.

Stinks like a rotten fuckin kebab though.

Why? If it was finicky with all ammo, that would seem to be the case. It functions as intended with everything else I've fed it though. Only ZQI produced endless FTFs, and my only FTE ever. Seems a pretty clear indicator that ZQI's doing something different from Federal, Lake City, Winchester, MEN, and Prvi Partizan, etc.

1,000+ rounds of ZQI M80 through my 2 x SCAR17 plus a few hundred through my Polytech M14 and a CAI FAL. A buddy ran several hundred rounds through his SA M1A Scout and no problems.

Could have been a bad run, or maybe they are just too light for your rifle. Is it new and need a break in? Adjustable gas system? Buffer weight? Just thinking out loud.

No

ZQI defiantly has a different pressure curve than "NATO" ammo. Your gun does not like it, that does not mean its bad ammo, its just bad for pressure sensitive guns, which a lot of AR308s are.

Sorry for your troubles,

I have shot hundreds of rounds of ZQI through my CETME.
No problems at all.

I only shoot iron sights, and it seems as accurate as XM80 - at a much lower price point.

You must be a hell of a shot, since ZQI is specified by the factory to be just inside a 12" plate at 200yrds.  It really is absolute junk - overpriced at 50cpr, IMHO.

I found a good use for the thousands that I bought before I knew any better--

Pull the bullets, and use them for subsonic .308 plinking loads.  8.3 gr of Trail Boss works great.

Dump the powder from the virgin brass, reduce the charge to 42.0 gr, then top off with one of the many 150gr Core-Lokts that I bought years ago before Remington went full-retard with their pricing.

Whew.... I had earlier considered that all the money invested in ZQI ammo was a complete loss.

THIS IS NOT A RELOADING POST

I'm a marksmanship instructor for the mil so I consider myself above average.

I poo poo'd the ZQI on here for a while until I tried it. After that I ate some crow and bought all I could, WM had it for around 40 cpr IIRC.

its fine in both my home built 308 ar and my savage 10ba which doesnt like some rounds due to a tight chamber. my ar10 only fails to extract when its filthy from running a can. i really need to turn down the gas a little lol

Ran fine in my rifle.
Accuracy was minute of barn door. 24 BBL 1:10 twist.
Surprisingly in my buddies 16" barreled DPMS I could shoot 2-3" groups with irons at 100yds.

Good point. The ammo probably smelled the scent of Crusader pork on my 901, thus explaining the whole thing.

ZQI is my preferred range ammo and I buy up every box I can find. I've put over 1500 rounds of it through my AR-10 over the past year with zero issues of any kind. It will shoot 2.5-3" groups in a DEF-10 carbine with EOTech and 3X magnifier.

AR10 with BA barrel had issues when the barrel was new. It is a 308 chamber though. It runs fine after 200+ rounds now, though the cases are pretty tight in the chamber (hard to pull an unfired round out). M1A eats it without issues. The best accuracy with standard NATO ball I've had is from MEN. ZQi is 2MOA.

Well, another two months almost and my rifle still hasn't short stroked again with anything I've fed it since shooting the ZQI. Seems to be pretty convincingly not me or Colt that's at fault. <shrug>

I would think I would be able to replicate it at least with M80 spec ammo, but nope. Lake City and MEN run perfectly, as did Partizan.

Maybe it was a bad batch of ammo.

I'd buy a pallet of it at that price. All the Walmart stores a around here quit carrying it about a year ago.

About 3 MOA off a 16" 1:12. Same barrel is able to drive 168gr FGMM consistently between 0.75 and 1 MOA depending on shooter and conditions from a rest, so it ain't the gun.

I'm mostly satisfied with it, however your lot experience may vary.

I bought a few batches and was happy with it.  Bought some more and the later batches had HORRIBLE accuracy, 6-8" at 100 yards out of multiple rifles VS 2" with XM80.

I've shot a bunch, it's my go to range ammo.  Never had any reliability issues and it seems to do fine on gallon jugs at 200 yards with iron sights.  $7.47 is a good price for the stuff and I've heard the brass is decent for reloading.  Blast away!

Some WalMart stores in TX had the price rolled down couple months ago but now back to $9.97. Surprised they still have it in states like TX and LA. I haven't seen them in Ohio for a year!
