This is great ammo.

I was able to get on target at 100, 600, 900 and 1,000 yards with just 15 rounds of ammunition including a five shot group at 1,000 yards that measured 8 inches vertical x 5 inches horizontal in a 2 MOA cross wind.

I averaged 2,767 fps from a 20 inch Lothar Walther 1:8 inch twist barrel.

DOPE corrected for center hits was 14.75, 30.0, and 37.5 MOA to center punch the steel gongs at 600, 900 and 1,000 yards.

It has the same point of impact at 100 yards as my CBC Magtech OTM ammo and it only needs 1/2 more elevation at 1,000 yards as the much faster CBC ammo.

As Molon has observed the bullet is seated so deep in the case to make magazine length that the ogive is somewhat past the case neck.  I do not know if this will effect its long term storage or weather proofness but it sure is accurate!  OCL is 2.245 with the occasional 2.25.  GI, Brownells and Magpull mags load and cycle fine.

I refined the JBM data using chronographed velocity for each string at 600, 900 and 1,000 and it looks like the TMK has a G7 of 0.192. The Bryan Litz verified G7 of the SMK is 0.190, so barely different.  But it expands to 500 yards, has practically the same POI as CBC and same port pressure too!  (Locked back on same gas port settin  g).  What a pair!

Bfoosh06, thanks for putting me on to Creedmoor.  I did not know about them.

Nice people.  emailed to see how I navigated their website and notified me of ship and delivery.  Much faster delivery than some better known stores!

I'm just about to order some TMKs and SMKs from them. I've heard great things about them so far, and they have good prices and good shipping with 10+ boxes.

TxLewis,

That Lothar Walther barrel is the best $350 I have ever spent.

Comes with blue printed/matching bolt too.

Can you provide details of LW barrel, and where you obtained it?  I see there are different places to obtain them and wonder if the quality is all the same, or if they build to the specs provided by the company selling them?  Thanks.

Geco 55gr FMJ is some dang good plinkin' ammo too.  I've been shooting a case through a couple of bolt guns, a 20" and a 26" 1/9"  twist remingtons, 20" is a .223, the 26" is a Wylde.

They both do about 1.25MOA 10 round groups at 100 off a bipod with a 10X scope.

Yep, I love Geco 55gr ammo, too
The 5.56 spec is 1.25MOA ammo in all of my 1:7 twist guns
The 223 spec is 1.25MOA ammo in my only 1:9 twist gun, my AUG A3

Thanks for the report!  I bought some to shoot at 600 and 1000 but won't get to try it for another week.  I would love to know how it chronographs out of a 16" barrel but my chrony is currently in another state.  I really hope it winds up with a similar zero to CBC 77gr out of my LaRue barrel.

I'll be shooting mine from a 16" Larue, please give us a range report on how it shoots for you.

Ford,

I do not have a 1:8 or 1:7 16 inch so I have not chronographed it from a carbine but would figure minus 110 fps.

As you probably know, temperature makes quite a differance in DOPE so be sure to plug in your projected temp, altitude and use 1.75 inches above bore if you are using a 30mm scope on an AR platform when you make yourself a range card.  I would use my figure of .192 G7 for BC rather than the default Sierra G1 settings if you are shooting at 1,000 yards.

0.375 is a more likely G1 if you look at the longer range come ups I found. But the single, averaged G1 does not describe the actual come ups as well as a G7 profile.  JBM uses the four Sierra G1 values but that was still off 1.5 MOA at 1,000 yards for me.

Let us know how you do.

Bill,

I ordered mine directly from LW in Georgia.

they are made in Germany and exported.

Watch for sales, they have them fairly often.  Available in 16, 20 and 24 inch HB.  the 16 inich is $200, 20 inch $369 on sale, and 24 inch $485.

the 20 inch is called a varmit/tactical I think.  Under 3 pounds w bolt as I recall.  Thats what I use.

Lothar Walther barrels are incredible for the money.  Mine is .6moa for $199, doesn't get better than that.

As for ammo though, I've found that the Stillwood TMK loads perform better than the Creedmoor TMK loads, at least from my barrel.

Thanks Potss,

I was not aware of Stillwood.

Have you chronographed their ammo?  I see they claim 2720 fops from 20 inch and 2500 fps from 14.5 inch.

What kind of brass do they use?

I haven't heard of them either, but am intrigued. How has it shot for you with what setup, as compared with the Creedmore or BH? I'm setting up my SPR and want as many options as possible for ammo.

Doty,

I would try the CBC 77 OTM also.  It is quite abit faster than Creedmoor and a bit cheaper.  The Creedmoor is accurate though!  5/8 x 1 ES on two ten shot groups and 5/8 x 5/8 on another.  The CBC is running about 1 x 1 1/4.  The CBC is a bit flatter shooting but they are very close.

I just tried to cut and paste links to 900 and 1000 yard targets from Photobucket but photobucket wont allow me to do so with add blocker installed and I cant get it to work even when I turn it off.  Anyone have advice?

Thanks, but not really.  About 20 inches off on windage!

Shooting small groups not hard, but dialing in the windage separates the masters from plinkers, like me.

Fun to plink though!

Out past 800 it can be hard to spot impacts with 5.56, a good spotter helps!

Wind can be harsh on the 77 smk, I've got a handful of 77 tmk that I haven't tried out yet. Should be interesting.

Impacts are hard to spot for sure!

It is even difficult to hear the bullet strike the steel.

Wouldn't that be 2.5", presuming the AR platform and a standard 1.4-1.5" mount?

John,

My bad.  Thanks for catching that.  1.75 would be for a bolt gun.  With a 30mm scope I think an AR is 2.6 or even 2.75 inches above bore.

My 30mm Burris MTAC with Burris PEPR mount is 2.85" above bore and is a hair taller than regular iron sight height (1.6" from top of receiver rail to center of scope).

Nice. Read about this ammo. Seems like a great alternative to the other stuff out there.
