Just had massive blown primers on a batch of IMI razor core 77gr 5.56- 8 boxes total all Lot 00229/F. Experienced 6-8 rds per box of 20 with same issues. 4 different rifles- 3 X LMT and 1 X Colt. No issues with other ammo shot today - Black hills and Fed M855
All rifles have less then 2K through each, bolts/ headspace all good to go Ive emailed IMI IN Israel and waiting to hear what they have to say. IMI ammo store online is just a reseller Ammo in question could be from wideners or SGA will update as I hear back from them |
Well this is concerning.
I have 500rd of 77gr razorcore from lot 229F I haven't shot. Ordered from SGammo. Please let me know what they say |
Sam,
Has anyone contacted you concerning issues with this ammo? |
I emailed IMI directly. I may ask for help from SGA if i don't hear back in a reasonable timeframe
I sent a link to Sam at Sgammo to comment when he has time concerning if he has heard any complaints

Please let me know what they say I have the same lot number, 500 Rd case??, haven't shot any yet. I also have this lot number, 500 rounds. I have shot 20 rounds without an issue, for what it's worth. I'm very interested to see how IMI responds, |
I have a couple boxes of this lot and no issues with what I've shot.
No response yet. I can't find a US based point of contact. A little discerning, that I can't track anyone down
my 77gr razor was all older stock in the brown box from wideners in 2013/14 whatever. i've burned through 1000 rounds of it and had no issues.
i do have 1000 of the new green box 55gr from SG though. guess i better demo a few hundred this weekend... i see AIM has brown box 77gr lot 239. funny how the box color changes so much too. anyone have this stuff? |
Yep. I had good results with it this past weekend. I'll post lot numbers later tonight.
I've never had any issues with the brown box stuff- have shot A LOT of that over the last year and half
Bought a single box at Cabela's a while ago to try this stuff... guess what lot number it is.

The lady who answered had no info for me , other then to tell me they were not IMI and was very adamant about saying they didn't sell the 77gr stuff |

I had two primers blow out of IMI 175gr, and later had a problem with scraps of brass (primer parts?) filling the firing pin channels on two bolts. I also noticed, what looks like a very nice blast ring, around primer width, on the front of my SR25 bolt face, and it will not scrub off. I have a thread on page one of this forum with my experiences. I did not have the same problems with my SPRish rifle shooting about 80 rounds of IMI 77gr. |
Primers completely blown out of their pockets- falling out into gun. Cases are ejecting
Chambers were very clean. Temp was mid 60's. Very slow fire in all rifles-irons and optics being zeroed- no more then 4-6 rds loaded in mags during the issues
It's not a rifle/temp issue No issues whatsoever with Black hills and Federal during same session. / |
I have 7 boxes of that lot that I haven't shot. I guess, I will be following this thread for outcome.
the brown box lot # 214 that I have is good to go. I've shot lots of it without issue. |
I have several cases and recovered primers. Don't know how to post pictures

I've gone through at least 5 boxes of this same lot, with no issues.
Temps from 40-90f in a .223wylde chamber. Unless you guys have .223rem or very dirty chambers I don't know why you'd be having issues. |

No reply yet from IMI. Ammo was purchased at cabelas They are passing it off on IMI and not doing anything as ammo is non refundable.
As I stated before- guns are clean, way in spec, good quality mfg ( colt and lmt) mild temps, and slow fire. Problem was just with this lot. Other ammo fired as same time had no issues. Previous lots of this ammo was always good to go in these rifles. I'm gonna reach out to a couple other vendors that carry this ammo and see if they have a POC for IMI |

Finally found a US based POC on the east coast. Have left a voicemail awaiting a return call

Upon further inspection, brass looks soft- cases with blown primers have clear ejector indentions and extractor indentions- very prominent I'm going to try posting pics later today
Shot 100 rds from this lot today is with no issues. Interested in what the manufacturer says.

Blown primers coupled with ejector indentations is a clear sign of over pressure. |

It should have [img] in front of link
and [/img@] at the end with no @ |
It does- Iv' e done photobucket and imagur and they are both not working. Followed the instructions to the letter ????

IMI USA finally got back to me. I forwarded them pictures and info so they can get with their QC in Israel. Will post when I hear back
I do not recall seeing the mentioned email above but just saw this post. I never had a single complaint about this ammo when I had it. We have a shipment coming in about 20 days of this same stuff, not sure what lot # it will be
Thanks sam http://www.SGAmmo.com |

metro6, is your lot from the craft brown boxes or the new green ones?
Had problems on primers backing out on some IMI 308 last year. Wasn't the only one, good thread on it over on the M14Forums. Widener's gave me my money back for them.
Haven't had any problems with the 1500 rounds of IMI 77 grain razor core I've shoot, but none of mine are OPs lot number. |
