And I get tired of the "Retardia" anti- 1:9 propaganda... It's all stupid when you shoot somewhat decent ammo out of a quality barrel no matter what the twist; with a semi-competent person behind the trigger!

1:9" twist barrels aren't going to cut-it with the latest generation of magazine length .224" projectiles.

That's all, well, fine and good until your carbine with the 1X9 is keyholing 77 grain FGMM at 50 yards and not hitting the target at 100.

I've shot bullets down to 45 grains in 1X7 barrels with no issues. Biggest problem with bullet blowups I've seen have been from bullets designed with paper thin jackets best suited for Hornet velocities.

As an example of what I was referring to above, The Barnes 70 grain TSX  is capable of decent accuracy. The 10-shot group pictured below was fired from one of my AR-15s with a barrel that has a 1:7.7" twist, at a distance of 100 yards.  The group has an extreme spread of 1.12”

For the next targets shown below, a 10-shot group was fired from one of my AR-15s that has a barrel with a 1:9" twist (also from a distance of 100 yards.)   Accuracy was terrible; the group had an extreme spread of over 3 inches. Several of the bullet holes were slightly oblong in shape and a couple of the bullet holes were clearly “key-holed” demonstrating that a 1:9” twist barrel will not adequately stabilize the 70 grain TSX.

Thanks Molon.  Of the 70 tsx fired ftom the 1:9, I can see the oblong hole on the top right, but which ones are the keyholes?  Is the whole barrel keyholed or just a few rounds did it?  Thanks.

The shot in the upper right hand corner is a key-hole.

All of the bullets to the right of the 55 grain FMJ bullet have produced sub-MOA 10-shot groups when fired from my semi-automatic AR-15s with fast-twist barrels.

I have never owned an AR with a 1/7 barrel until I picked up a PSA kit and finished it a couple weeks ago. Got to the range last saturday, just over 200 rounds through it, all 55 grain stuff. So far its the most accurate AR I own. It has a nitrated barrel, not sure if that has anything to do with it, first nitrated barrel as well.

Lol, GTFO outta here w your data.

55 g from a 1x12 hits you in the thigh and goes out the top of the head while from a 1x7 its an "ice pick wound .

I have some of the Black Hills "GECO" if you are interested in testing it as well.

During the last Obamascare shortage , BH supplemented there 55gr FMJ line with a load tailored to their specs from GECO.

GECO 55gr FMJ...................GECO 223 REM..........Av. 2967 , ES 45...............Av. 3128 , ES 22..........................Quite accurate, and still the "cheap" accuracy king in some of my rifles.
Black Hills / GECO 55gr FMJ .223............................Av 2863, ES 31.................Av. 3000, ES 20...........................Loaded by RUAG / GECO to Black Hills Specs.

Example of the Black Hills / Geco...

Here's another example of how well a quality 55 grain bullet can shoot from a fast-twist AR-15 barrel . . .

Not sure how I missed this thread.

Thank you, Molon.

I have two AR'S;  a carbine with a 1:9 barrel and a rifle with a 1:7 barrel.

They both love PPU M193. A bit smaller groups than XM193.

Barrels like what they like.

How is that supposed to help? You can see the bullet (technically, projectile) starting to keyhole in the Matrix!

Seriously, I can't wait for the full review of Geco 223 and 5.56.

Thanks again, Molon!

The 223 Remington GECO review is posted:

The 5.56mm GECO data is in the can and will be posted as soon as I have time to write it up.
