So recently I've become interested in reloading and have started collecting range brass. Yesterday there was a Husband-wife team shooting their AR's and enjoying themselves at the local range. When they were through, they were nice enough to let me collect and keep their brass but upon closer inspection of the brass I saw this:

(Please see these links b/c for some reason the board wont display the image properly. If any admin wants to fix this I would be grateful.)

I collected alittle over 200 rounds and about 10% of them have some degree of this "rim separation". Is this possibly due to their rifle's extractor or is
AMA just crappy brass? I may crush and recycle the whole lot.

Thanks!

I'd trash the crappy ones and reload as normal with the ones you have.

I suspect their rifle was the issue.

Danish AMA is soft brass.  It is also thick and has about 1 grain less capacity than most NATO.  I have reloaded mine 2 - 3 times at moderate loads before pockets become too loose.  Just from the appearance of the primers, these were factory loads, which are hot, or hot reloads.  I just recently pulled the rim off an AMA case in full length die that was only moderately tight.  I've got 300 factory rounds left from a 900 rd case and am not going to reload them.  I've got better brass.

A friend of mine just shot about 400 rnds of the Danish M855. The brass didn't look ANYTHING like your pictures. All fired brass retained the rim, unlike yours.
Head stamps were mixed, 2012 , 2013 , and 2014 dates. They had a very light coating of pale orange primer sealant. Also, the outside of the fired cases were clean.

Your pictures show heavy fouling on the outside of the cases. Maybe a residue from steel cased ammo, rust pitted chamber, or heavily fouled chamber. That could cause the extractor to really pull on the rim, causing the damaged brass.

I have fired a couple thousand of the Danish 855 rounds and have never seen the rims damaged like those are in three of my guns.

Like posted above it looks the guns they were using have very dirty or just bad chambers in them.
