Does anyone have any info on this specific offering from Barnes ?

Midway has the 69gr version... but I really want to know about the 5.56x45 85gr offering.

"Barnes Precision Match rounds are loaded with a match grade OTM (Open Tip Match) BT projectile featuring a long boat tail and high BC. Scan the QR code located on the back of each box to view Doppler radar generated drop tables specific to each load. Precision Match will be offered in 5.56x45mm 69 grain OTM BT, 5.56x45mm 85 grain OTM BT, .308 Win. 175 grain OTM BT, .300 Win. Mag. 220 grain OTM BT, and .338 Lapua Mag. 300 grain OTM BT."

Chrono velocities from the 19 April '15....

Shoots great ! Just under 1 MOA at 100yds

Both barrels are 1n7 twist, I saw no signs of keyholing in either barrel, ammo is loaded to mag length, and I experienced no feeding problems.

2 ea 10 round groups fired from both barrels, for a total of 20 rds per rifle. 80 degrees, approx. 232 ft above sea level

Velocities from my rifles

Brand of ammo ..................Headstamp.................16" V7 Middie, Wylde......................20" PSA CHF Wylde.

Barnes 85gr OTM.5.56.......BBR 5.56 13..................Av. 2482 Fps, ES 32......................Av. 2565 Fps, ES 48

Frankly those velocities are very good compared to how much space the bullet takes up in the case, I want to see a ballistic gelatin test !!
Cases showed no signs of excessive pressure, and I will say again... the cases look a lot like GECO cases, just more polished... same crimp, same primer sealant.

Interesting, I need some for my 1:6 barrels.

Interesting,  have not seen that.  Will a 1/7 twist stabilize it?

That's a low BC for an 80+ grain bullet.

I hope its low BC is because it is a "mag length bullet" and not a bullet like the Sierra 80 gr....

That is what I would assume to be the case.

I looked at these. Basically no data out there. Also, not a great bc compared to the new 77 tmk and other offerings. I ended up just sticking to the 77's.

Why? Maybe subsonic .223????? 77gr move around 2600fps and that's low enough for .223.

Probably just a load using the 85gr barnes match burner bullet. With a length of 1.068" its about the same as the 77gr TMK so they can probably be loaded to mag length.

BC for 80g SMK is .420.  this is close.  The 77 TMK is there too.  I think this was intended as a Mag length sub-sonic that will cycle the rifle; not sure if that will work or not.

The linked thread above the photos of the actual bullet shows Corn_Dork's mag length reload results.

Bottom line... reasonable velocity and accuracy with TAC... 2400 fps out of a 16" 1n8 twist LaRue Stealth.

Thats still AK velocity levels, you are going to have some stupid trajectory if you plan on shooting beyond 300yds. At 600yds you have more than 5x the amount of drop of a 77gr sierra!

Got the ammo... bullet looks like the previous photo, except with a cannelure rolled into it at the appropriate mag length position.

Case has a slight Taper crimp into the cannelure.

No apparent neck sealant.

24.2 grs of an unknown Ball powder. Seems like a fairly stiff load, ( for any propellant ) considering the bullets weight and intrusion into the available case space.

Primer staked with a 3 point crimp as well as sealed with a black sealant..... brass, primer and crimp look suspiciously like a OEM GECO case.. ?!

Headstamp... BBR 5.56 13

Box end marked " 1 IN 8 TWIST OR FASTER

I'm surprised there was only ~70 fps difference between the 16" and 20" barrels.

I'm not that surprised... if you could see how far the bullet extends into the usable case space... taking up room that could be propellant instead, in other words there just isn't any spare room for powder.

The leftover case capacity is very limited...now we know just how limited..... I keep thinking about necking down a 6.8 case to .224, that should give it much more powder room...

I am surprised how fast it is going.

Black Hills has used Geco cases also as they are some of the best and most uniform. The BH 62 TSX loads I ordered last year all used Geco brass and shoots great.

Harrison has one already from ARP.

This is from the facebook page that he has on his 5.56x42.

Playing around with an old 20" 5.56x42 today. Was able to push a 75 amax to 3210fps with no signs of pressure using CFE. 3290fps showed a very slight crater.

Zeroed at 200yds it would have 36" drop and 19" drift at 500yds. That is apx 20" less drop than the Grendel shooting a 123gr Amax.
After running the ballistics of the 75 and 80 Amax and comparing them to the flattest shooting cartridge I know of(243 with 105s) this is an amazing cartridge considering it works in an AR15.
The 5.56x42 is capable of pushing 55gr bullets to 34-3500fps.

The only thing I can imagine is ... as much weight as possible, for up close ( closer then 200yds ) SD.... In other words I have no idea.
