New to the 6.8 SPC and need advise on ammo for deer/hog loads.
I would like to use Hornady. There are 3 loads I would like to choose from. My thoughts were that the heavier bullet would be better but I need your input.
Laws here in Alabama require any centerfire with expanding bullets.

I second this motion.

Thirds.

My favorite round is a custom reload with a 120gr SST.

If you can get them, silver state armory has 90gr protected point solid base ammo that uses nosler's latest bonded solid base bullet(nosler now owns ssa), which is a pretty nasty little bullet that is found in LE and SD ammo. When they're on sale you can find them for around 16-17 a box.

They are on the light side of the 6.8, but they are more than enough for hunting deer/hogs.

95TTSX Handload.

Of the ones you suggested among the 6.8 guys the 120 gr is a favorite for both accuracy and proven terminal ballistics.    The V-max is probably not a good idea on hogs and only on deer if going for neck shots.   However the v-max has shown to perform better at longer ranges where the slower velocity causes it to expand less rapidly.    I will also say a fragmenting bullet like the BTHP has taken a lot of game.

Laws here in Alabama require any centerfire with expanding bullets.

But your location shows Iowa?

If you had to use hornady I would use the SST.

I prefer the loadings from SSA... Accubond or prohunters.

Doubletap ammo makes some quality 6.8 using the best pills

120 sst or 95 ttsx are the consensus over there

My vote is 120 sst.  I have killed several pigs and a couple of deer. Excellent results.

+1  These are the best two factory hunting rounds.  The factory SST will be the cheaper option and more available.  If you have a SPII chamber that can take the hotter combat loads, then the 95 ttsx load from Wilson Combat is the best current factory load available.  It is just hard to get and expensive.  You have to be lucky and buy quick when it is in stock.

The only issue with the SST is that it damages meat pretty bad. If you are murdering hogs, that obviously wouldn't matter to you much.

SSA 110 prohunters work nice on coyotes and deer.

Best accuracy, coupled with the best tested terminal performance, I've gotten was the 110gr BTHP w/C. YMMV.

I agree with this-I have shot this in 4 uppers and 1/10 and 1/11 twist and it is superbly accurate, like 5 shots into 1/2" accurate if you can hold it.
I haven't got to shoot anything yet with it
