If you have the cash, go for it.
But a sub $1,000 safe (that will fit a good amount of ammo) is pretty easily broken into isnt it? |

The job box idea is one of my fav's to come out of this place. They can be cheap of you get em used.

Sub $1000 are a joke for security and can be opened in minutes with a drill or cutting torch. I only store guns in my safe and keep the ammo outside of the safe in cabinets. If it gets stolen, that is what insurance is for. I haven't seen any insurance companies with limits on ammo coverage, only firearm coverage limits.

A job box sure makes it hard to get ammo into and out of, once you get to a sizeable quantity. If that would hold everything, only the media would really consider it a "stockpile"
I quit trying to secure my ammo in its own container(s) about 75k rounds ago. It's just not practical, nor really necessary IMHO. I'd worry more about envelope/perimeter security more once you get past a small stash size. I simply went with ammo cans on heavy duty shelving, and put money towards other security featues and systems. |

I put my centerfire ammo into a couple of locked office type cabinets, further secured with padlocks:
For me it's more of a due diligence thing than a security thing. The padlock is intended to keep honest people and prying eyes out-a thief is going to get in no matter what. If someone steals my stuff, it's insured. |

Indeed. I've posted these before, but I just use heavy duty shelving for ammo cans. As things grow, I have room to add a second row behind the first. The cans are labeled, and the color of the labels gives me a quick handgun vs shotgun vs rifle categorization. These pics are of just some of many shevles. No safe or JobBox can do that, and the money and effort you'd put into that short-term small solution would be better off in the long run being put into your whole-house security plan.
