I gotta ask, what is the difference between Hornady's TAP Urban #83276 and their TAP FPD #83278 ?
Is it really all that much different ? Is one better than the other ? Just marketing hype ?

Those urban rounds are a V-Max bullet, which is a ballistic tip designed for rapid, almost explosive expansion. The idea is that when used on a varmint (which is where the "V" in V-Max comes from), the bullet will fully expand and come apart in a very short distance through tissue. This is useful in home defense situations where overpenetration is a concern (apartments, thin walls, etc.). If you go to the hornady LE website they have extensive geletin ballistic tests of the different TAP loads and how they perform after traveling through different materials (plywood, auto glass, sheet rock and the like) and you can see how they fair in penetration tests. The urban line is no hype, they are light and come apart very quickly. I'd hate to be the ER doctor on duty if some crook came in with 40gr TAP Urban loads in him.

Will816, thanks for the info. I was listening to the usual gun shop rhetoric about TAP ammo and had to do my own research.

Is there any reason Urban is harder to find than FPD ?
