M193 om M855, whatever you can find.
I'm in Central Texas and my Wal-Mart had a can of M855 for $164.00/420. |

If money is a problem?
One could buy enough Barrier Blind loads to fill 7 MAGS The buy ball ammo to practice or to keep incase of bad times. I would look into Federal Fusion 62gr or surplus MK318 |

1000 rounds of zq3313 from SGAmmo, but it costs twice your budget.

62 grn SOST MK318 if you have a 14.5 barrel
16 " or 20 inch barrel XM193 or M885 If you can find MK262 I'd use that in 11.5 or 14.5. It works in everything actually. Personally I load the Sierra 77grn HPBT SMK over 24.5 grns of Tac for 2750 fps. My personal MK262 Mod 0 round. I chronoed a shitpile of rounds today out of 20" and 16" AR and that 4" loss hurts. Going down to a 14.5 is going to be even worse. Get the ammo to match your barrel length. |

It took a big jump since last week end.. I have been shooting the fed. EA223H that i got from waly world and it shoots just fine and if you can still find it it is fairly cheep to buy in today's market. Don't buy into the panic buying again it's just a joke and these internet sales places are just putting to yah. It will come back down again when every one wakes up Dec. 22 and the sun comes up for yet another day.. It seems that about every 4 years or so the world is going to end for this reason or that and the internet plays into this big roll of BS...

Straight wall pistol... reload your own if you shoot $400 a case handgun ammo.
Rifle - I'd do the $330 shipped case of M193 Prvi from TargetSports to feed an AR... http://www.targetsportsusa.com/p-677-prvi-partizan-556x45mm-m193-55-grain-full-metal-jacket-ammunition.aspx For .308/7.62 NATO probably try the Prvi 145 grain ball for $500 or so a case at Wideners ... or the 165 grain Prvi 165 grain soft point at TargetSportsUSA for $350 shipped per 500. http://www.targetsportsusa.com/p-3211-prvi-partizan-308-winchester-165-grain-pointed-soft-point-ammunition.aspx |

You would buy an $800 case of ammo that for all you know shoots 10MOA or is light loaded due to error? You have more faith than I do. |

What more could I want? I plan on running it from a 12.5" suppressed Noveske. It was made with the MK18 10.3" barrel in mind. Perfect round from an SBR if you don't want to pony up the $$ for bonded ammo, and I have found SOST to be more accurate. Certainly, it is more aerodynamic. |

I'd buy reloading components, as I can tailor a load for my carbine far more accurate than any factory ammo I can afford.
It might not be super high pressure mil spec, but I'd rather hit where I'm aiming every time. |

Why 1k, is there a reason you need that much of the good stuff??? It sounds like you are panic buying and not really gonna train/shoot it
I would buy 250 rds of the good SD ammo, (see faq above) shoot 70 of them to function/zero then load 6 mags to have, or put it on strippers/bandos. If I had any money left over I would get wolf/cheap training ammo Its not like you will be blastin through that much ammo in SHTF ymmv Originally Posted By quest84: What would you buy? Just picked up some 5.56 lawman.
Really any 193 is fine. HP or SP is unnecessary as the FMJ disintegrates inside the target. |

FMJ may or may not fragment if it tumbles inside the target. It's also just as likely to pass straight through leaving a .224 hole on both sides. It's not a good idea to depend upon any FMJ yawing or fragmenting for SD. The only loads that might "disintegrate" are various varmint bullets and those aren't recommended for SD due to a lack of penetration. I keep a few mags loaded with XM556FBIT3 for SD/HD. It's too expensive to plink away with, I use 193 and 855 for that. |

MK 318 is a good choice if it is issued to you or your primary concern is having a barrier-blind round. There are far better choices if purchased. Some good guidance here (even if it is oriented to LE). |

Tiered approach:
1. 200 round case of Tap 75 gr .223 loaded into six mags. One mag lives in the AR15, three in the chestrig in my gun-related go-box, and the other two in the bandolier in the same box. 2. 1200 round case of IMI855 loaded onto strippers, packed into three 30-cal cans, each with three pmags, a spoon, and desiccant. 3. About 500 rounds of other assorted brass cased 223 and 556 in factory boxes. Used for zeroing optics, and longer range shooting during classes. 4. Many thousand rounds of WPA 223 for practice. Buy a little of the best, most expensive stuff. This is what you'll actually use. The only way I'm ever firing six mags from my AR in self-defense is if we're several months into a Mad Max scenario. It just isn't going to happen. Buying a thousand rounds of Black Hills or TAP or something like that is a waste of money IMO if you're just putting it back for SHTF. |

If all goes well, I'll grab 500 more. Got fusions, m855 IMI and 5.56 T2 stashed. Fusion shoots well and has a low velocity expansion threshold <2000 fps. Plus it was the cheaper round when I bought it as XM223SP1 (fiddy cents). Plus it shoots 1.5- 2.0 MOA with the right rifle. |
