our WM sells those new federal 100rd bulk boxes (no foam insert, just 2 smaller boxes inside w/ 50rds ea. packed tightly):
9mm $19.97
.40 $23.97
.45 $28.97

problem is, they are ALWAYS SOLD OUT! i am trying to talk my kid (16) or one of his buddies into getting a part time job over there so they can hook me up, but they either like the jobs they have or rents dont "make" them work for their "own" money...

I find it funny that they raise the price on ammo that they don't have in stock. It went up $4.00 overnight but the shelves was empty.

Apparently this ammo was seen in the wild back in may on another board. But no one else was able to find other than original poster. Too bad an amazing deal is now just a good deal. But supply has always been an issue with WM value pack ammo. The 9mm has been available for more than a year, but it only occasionally in stock.

Perhaps the price increase will slow the shelf clearing buys. But if every occasion I saw it for 25.97 I cleared the shelf, so why wouldn't others.

our local wal mart had ZERO bulk boxes of ANY calibers for any brands on their shelves last night. just some scattered 50rnd boxes of the less than popular calibers and the over-priced stuff.
kid working that dept said its a joke. they hardly ever get a full delivery. just random boxes of anything. when he scanned the upc on the shelf it just showed they had a maximum amount on backorder with no estimated delivery date... the wal marts around here have scaled way back on sporting goods dept and dont sell guns anymore but they cant keep ammo in stock. you would think they'd re-evaluate expanding the gun dept. i'd rather do business with a local shop but all ours specialize in big $$ products and dont want to bother with the basic stuff.

Price changes definitely happened on the federal .45. Only stores that havent changed are ones who didnt print the new tag. I got 5 today, rang 29.97 but the shelf still said 25.97. They gave it to me for shelf price then changed it.

Is $164 for 420 of 855 a good deal? I cant seem to find a clear answer.. My local walmart has that same deal going.

from where?

While the vendor could have packed it a bit better, they're not entirely to blame for the problem. PMC comes in unsealed boxes. So if the vendor doesn't pack them tight enough the ammo falls out in the box. So when the UPS guy literally threw the box at my porch, it broke open when it hit the stairs. So my girlfriend came yhome to a mangled box with live ammo hanging out of it. A few rounds were significantly damaged. Not to mention I'm glad she got to it before our girls did. The UPS guy is probably lucky he didn't detonate a primer when he did it. Not to mention it was supposed to have a signature for delivery.

I'm not going to call out the vendor. I simply emailed them that it might be a good idea to package ammo a bit better. I doubt I'll hear anything back but those are the breaks. I'll continue to use and recommend them, but will likely buy ammo elsewhere. My buddy I gave the damaged rounds to today said he ordered from PSA and it came packaged good enough to survive a fall off a building. Maybe I'm just picky, but loose rounds and the other parts to my order practically falling out of a box that was intentionally miscared for just seems to risky for me.

I honestly don't know. Damage aside, are loose rounds in a lightly taped up box acceptable for an ammo shipment?

It's Natchez, isn't it.

Yes, that's a good deal by today's standards. PSA had free shipping most of the summer at $179.95 delivered. Can't remember if theirs was on strippers or not. The Wal-Mart can is in boxes, no stripper clips. With sales tax here in Texas, it would be $177.53 out the door. Same-same, just a little more convenient.

The cans we got from W.M. were in boxes and on stripper clips. This was a few months ago.

Around here some of the local gun shops clean out the Wal-Marts of their ammo, mark it up 10-20%, and then put it out on their shelves.

Ever look at a dealer catalog like Jerry's/Ellet Bros. or Accusport? Unless it's a special or you're buying a butt-ton of a single caliber, WalMart is beating the "wholesale" prices on most stuff and that's before shipping charges. If a customer wants a non-standard caliber or bullet weight you order it from your wholesaler. But for plinking ammo in standard calibers, I completely understand dealers doing what Ironhandjohn refers to.

The last 3 times I have went to my local Wal Mart they have had a shelf behind the counter full of the cans of M855. I have purchased 2 cans, this is the 1st time this Wal Mart has had them in stock I spoke with the Sporting Goods manager who is a good friend and he says that people just aren't buying them. He said that they prefer to buy the American Eagle Varmint Tip 50 gr for $10.99 per 20 over these cans. Currently they are priced at $159.99 he said if they did not sell within a couple weeks or so they would mark them down. I hope they are there next pay day.

Yes, when Wal-Mart first started carrying the cans, the ammo was on strippers, not in boxes. It was just marked Federal XM855 on the outside of the can. Now, they are marked "American Eagle" and have the big eagle logo. Those AE cans have boxed ammo inside.

My local Wal-Mart dropped the price on AE223 from $6.97/20 to $6.47/20. They had both the AE223H and the 100rd Federal value pack ($34.97) in stock today. It's now $2.62/100 cheaper to buy in 20-rd boxes than in 100-rd bulk. It's the same ammo, right?

i always thought the same thing, then i asked the lady who unlocks it, she told me there is no set day when they stock it, there is no order they come in or anything like that, so i started checking in the middle of the week and odd days, now sometimes they have it, sometimes not. and i have also been there in the morning and picked up a few value packs of 223, then later that afternoon i thought to myself, i better buy another box or two, when i got there, the rest were gone. they sold 1000+ rounds of 223 with a 6-8 hour time period, so now i check in the morning in the middle of the week, they seem to always have a few things in stock, but not everytime
