THE IMAGE ABOVE IS A PAID ADVERTISEMENT I have a sealed crate of Chinese 7.62x39 steel core. I've been told by several people that its quite expensive at this point. Up to $1 a round. Is this the case? If so I think I'd rather sell it and use the cash to get several cases of cheaper ammo. I don't even remember how many rounds were in the crate. I'm going to guess it's two spam cans with ~1000 rounds each. Anyone know for sure? |

$1ea might be stretching it ... 50 cents ea is the average in these parts.
I would never pay that as I have 1000's of rounds saved up from the days when it was $69 a crate of 1200 rounds. Some crates had 2 - 660 round spam cans and some had 20 round boxes of Norinco yellow box. To me it's just 30 yr old ammo ... to some they want a few hundred rounds for SHTF scenarios for shooting out engine blocks or whatever. Confirm the steel core by cutting into one |

It's in my parent's basement. I'll make a trip over there and take a pic. Right now the case is unopened and I'd rather leave it like that if possible, especially if I'm going to sell it. $0.50 a round works for me too. I'm just curious what I have.

Man, if you can find somebody who will actually fork over $1/rd for this stuff, by all means get the $ before they change their mind. IMO, it's not all that it's trumped up to be...it will punch thru some stuff, but nowhere near what true AP will do. The most I'd pay for any -39 steelcored ammo, regardless of where it came from, would be about .30-.40/rd, and that's pushing it. If it is the API ammo, that's a different story in itself. Just my opinion, been shooting steel cored ammo for almost 30 yrs or so...back in the good old days it was about $70/1100 rd case!

You can check the market rate by using the links to get over to Gun-Deals.com
The drop down menu will show you different cartridges and you can see the prices and sort on many other columns. Unless you know for sure that there is something special about your ammo, I can't imagine it is worth that much. A photo of any markings on the package might do the trick, but I am not any sort of 7.62 collector. I just burn the stuff up on paper and plates. The current Yugo Mil-Surplus is going for about $0.20 per round before shipping. Paying 5 times that much would have to be some very special collector item is my guess. http://gun-deals.com/ammo.php?caliber=7.62x39 Good Luck. |

at .50 -.60 a round it will sell quickly , I am not sure a $1 is doable but I sold a lot at .50 , the market is higher .

I have an unopened crate of this.
It is not bad. It is reasonably accurate, and has been very reliable. It will punch through stuff pretty well, but I wouldn't expect it to punch all the way through engine blocks. 110 strippers have to be worth some thing all by themselves. |

Might look in the AK forum in their ammunition section <shrug>. Google should have found it though.
It should still be gtg for another 100-years |
