THE IMAGE ABOVE IS A PAID ADVERTISEMENT Archived thread results: 368 responses 341 with no problems 14 with minor problems 13 with major problems IF YOU HAVE ALREADY VOTED IN THE PREVIOUS POLL, PLEASE DO NOT VOTE AGAIN. Please add your personal experience with WINCHESTER Q3131 M193 ammunition to this thread. When you do, please give information about: 1) Firearm used in 2) Approximate number of rounds fired. I am trying to solicit only information about your PERSONAL experience with this ammunition. If you haven't used it, then please don't clutter up the thread. Information about proper functioning (or lack thereof) is obviously the most important, but factors such as the accuracy or other peculiarities you've noticed are informative also. If you have had problems with this ammo which were severe enough to cause you to stop using this ammo, then please describe them. And one more minor request: keep your reviews objective. If you vote that you've had problems with the ammo, then please be so kind to let us know what those problems were. Simply voting negative will not help anyone. |

Some comments from the archived threads:
Shot around 500rds in a carbine match (and won) and a practice session or 2 out of a CMMG uppered M4orgery. Flawless so far. 200 rnds through 2 rifles so far. no problems, no anomolies. cleanup appears to be the same. 120 rounds through my SP1 20 " and another 100 through a CAR 6520 and very accurate as any Q3131 old stuff or Q3131A. Just took a 6 point buck at 25 yards on a hunt with the SP1, 04 headstamp WCC. He ran 25 yards and collapsed. The round fragmented upon entry and took out a lung and top part of his heart. My second deer with these rounds and am very satisfied. Shot another 300 rounds of Q3131 the other day (mixed headstamps from '04 to '06, lot WK32) and noticed that this batch seems to be exceptionally dirty (lots of crap blown back into the action, more Wolf-esque than I have ever seen before with this type of ammo). Funtionally it was fine except for one round, which looked like the bullet did not seat properly, causing the neck to be slightly rolled back and the case bulged out slightly. This round stuck in the chamber (did not go all the way in). Took a good hard buttstroke while pulling the CH to get the round out. It may have been me (probably was), but this batch of ammo did not seem to be as accurate as I've seen Q3131 in the past. I've had excellent results with Q3131. My ammo included Lots WL75 and another that I can't dig out right now. Some boxes were all Nato crosses while others are mixed with 04 and 05 headstamps. I have put roughly 480 rds through my rifle. Some '99 Q3131 I've shot also functione perfectly also(Lot PH61). I have only one AR and everything functioned fine. Groups exceptionally well 1" at 50yds and 1.5" - 2" at 100yds. As a fluke ,possibly, had 10 rounds at 200yds shoot a 3" group. 6 shots were within an inch and the rest opened in it up to 3 inches. I was shooting from a bench with forearm on a padded rest. Shot 500 rounds WWB 04&05 through Bushmaster M4A3 16inch 1X9. Not one single problem or malfunction. The Q3131 shot better groups than XM193 through the Bushmaster M4. Also, put 200 through a LMT M4 14.5 without any malfunctions. Although not as hot as the Xm193 the Q3131 shoots a little better in both AR's mentioned. I have a couple of other AR's that I have not tried it in yet but will post results when I do. I prefer the Q3131 5.56 above all others and will store at least 5K for SHTF. I do like the XM193 and will continue to purchase both XM193 and Q3131. Will buy whatever is cheapest at the time. Looks like XM193 is running a little less money at the moment. Ran the crono today. conditions;elv 8000ft,temp 32f, light snow. All rounds fired through an Armalite 16" midleangth. Screens 12ft from muzzel. Win Q3131, lot WH92. 04/05 most w/cross. 5 shots ave:2996;ES152 ;SD55.4. Second set:Q3131, lotWK10; 04/05 most w/cross.5 shot av 3115;ES41.1; SD16.5! For comp.;5rds SA M1A2, lot675A83.av.3106;ES52.8; SD21.5. LC M193, lot83L003-006; av 3030;ES 58.9; SD23.4. XM193 lot096; AV 3115;ES47.3; SD21.1. Q3131A, misplaced lot # but cases stamped 03, AV3125;ES91; SD 33.5. Just to throw an oddball in Radway stamped RORG 89 w/ cross. AV 2944; ES35.8 ;SD 13.3. All sets were 5 rounds, weapon allowed to cool between sets. I have fired at least 500 rds of each of the above with no problems , except the RG which will short stroke after a long range session. Hope the info is of use to someone. Shot 200 rounds of Q3131 today from the bench at 100 yards from RRA 16" mid length. All 05 lot XC01 and all had the NATO cross. A few dings in the brass but otherwise no issues. All fed and fired and accuracy was 1.0 - 1.5 inches. glockman19 I have had good experiences withthis ammo in my AR-15 and mini-14. approximately 1,000 rounds. Nytmayr I have fired about 500 to 1000 rounds through my Bushmaster carbine, and I consider it to be my standard. It is not exceptionally accurate, but it is decent, and most importantly it feeds and fires every time. I have only the front of the rifle supported so it can be tricky at times, but it will keep the bullets within a 4 to 6 inch area, when firing up to 100 rounds in a few minutes. (I consider it not too bad, this is taking into account the effect of the barrel getting warm over a sustained course of fire) The next thing is to experiment with different bullet weights and see if it has any preferences. (So far it seems to like the American Eagle 55gr. FMJ, and the Black Hills 55gr. FMJ) Reservoir_Dog I have had excellent experiences with Winchester Q3131. I have put several thousand rounds (4,000 to 5,000) through a Colt M4 in semi and full auto modes. Also put about 500 rounds through my Sabre Defence XM-15. No problems at all. Both rifles love the stuff. Very good accuracy. |

Thanks. |

question if I may: does anyone know if the 'current' production Q3131, or as of 2007, have the sealant on bullet and primer like M193? thanks

I mamaged to pick up 5 boxes from Trailboss in S Vista and ran them through my Arms Tech USR. Perfect feed and a one inch hole at 100 meters on a windy day. These will do the job.

Have shot just over two hundred rounds of this stuff through a carbine with no problems at all. All rounds fed and functioned well with 1-2" 5 shot groups at 100 yds ( scoped ). ETA: Not all 200 or so were in 5 shot groups for accuracy. It is entirely possible the groups could/would have opened up some as the day went on. Conditions were near perfect. Though I see from the archived post above that some found it dirty, I didnt notice any abnormal amount of debris in the weapon during clean up. Seemed full power enough, though none of it was on a chronagraph.

I have problems with 2005 production Q3131 in my DPMS but no problem at all in my friend's Bush Master, fail to feed and fail to eject. Is this short stroking? Can somebody explain what is SS and how do I fix it? I also have 2007 production and all worked perfectly.

FWIW, WCC 06 averaged 3130 fps from my RRA 16" middie. About 40 degrees F that day.

Q3131 is IMHO the best m193, well in my rifle anyway. YMMV.

I shot 40 rounds of this stuff and wont probably use any more. On about my 23rd round I had a failure to fire, bolt wasn't closed fully nor would it open. After slamming the hell out of my charging handle against a table the cartridge came flying out. Part of the casing neck was missing and there was a large bulge around the bullet on one side causing it to get stuck in the chamber. I inspected the remaining rounds an many of them had deformities in the casings. I shot the remainder of my PMC and had no problems in my S&W M&P. Ultimately it was my mistake for not inspecting them before I loaded them...I dont know if it was a bad batch or what.

300 rounds or so of WCC 91
500 rounds of WCC 07 NATO edit: SP1, 6920 Not a single problem 20 rounds into 2.5" w/ irons at 50 yards (good for my eyes) haven't noticed any manufacturing defects, all go bang Highly recommended for training, but I'm sure that they would hurt pointy end first Don't care if this is the only 55gr ammo in the world. Fire = bad Food = good Q3131 = happy :) |
