Question.
When you count your ammo to check to see if you have an ammo whore problem or not, do you include your .22LR? I don't know that its fair and should be included with the rest. Thoughts? |

You will generally get laughed at around here if you include 22lr ammo in your stash numbers. Most of the time it is centerfire only. I would imagine that the number of us with 20k+ of 22lr is much larger than the number of people with 20k+ of 5.56. |

Funny - I have never in my life had more than 1000 rounds of 22LR in the house. Why? I mean - you can so easily go pick up a brick at any store.... why would anyone stock up 20K large?

There is a very good reason to sometimes buy a metric ton of .22. Every once in a while you will find a certain lot and make of .22 that will shoot incredibly well. If you are going to keep the gun, you're best bet is to got to the store you bought it from and buy as much of the same exact lot number as they have. The next lot might shoot for crap in the same gun, .22 is weird that way. |

I have no clue as to how much .22lr that I have, I dont even think I have shot any of my .22's in over a year.
I know I picked up a synthetic 10/22 back in early 2005 and I still haven't shot it

22 LR can be a useful round, it's great for hunting and being quite with a firearm (taking out dogs or people without bringing too much attention your way). It has a limited amount of use for defensive / offensive purposes, but it's great for trade in a SHTF or TEOTWAWKI situation (trade a cheap 22 LR and 1000 rounds to a neighbor for food / water / gas / something bigger / etc). Additionally, I do not like to count on being able to purchase something I may need in a time of emergency. Stores will more than likely be packed with people turning places that sell 22 LR into potential problem areas. Plus in a zombie situation I can carry 30,000 rounds on my back for my 22 LR rifle and keep a 22 LR pistol for zombie backup (you know when you're overrun by the hoard and they grab your rifle)

You are the man! Assuming 40gn bullets that is 171lbs in lead alone. Sorry could not pass that one up fellow ham. 22 ammo adds up faster than you would think. I can put 13 boxes of the Walmart specials(550 Rd. Value pack) in a SAW can. I would not want to hump one of those far! |

Well I'm partial to the 38 grain Federal HPs actually, so that's were the weight savings is over 30,000 rounds In all seriousness, one could pack 9000 rounds, a 22 LR rifle and a 22 LR pistol with a pack, food and water and make it under the 75 lbs weight limit for the US combat forces max gear weight. |

Ordinary 50BMG can, no the lid won't close. Once I free'd up some other 50BMG cans I broke the mag pile down into groups of 12 and put them into the cans laying down with 18 boxes of ammo. |

I'm not going to say anything about the cost of 22LR. $100 to me today is just like $100 two years ago. But I'll not say a thing about ammo costs. But I did buy 10K of 22LR on sale just in case, and no I don't count it as part of the stash/horde/stockpile. |

Not really sure but I want more already.  Actually the main use will be for cheap plinkin in my 9mm revolver. After that it may find it's way into a glock for some cheap manual operation plinkin. Then I also thought I could probably shoot it at my 22lr bullet trap without hurting the trap. ETA: that a true ammo whore doesn't need a reason to buy ammo or have any use for a certain type what-so-ever. |

just this week I purchased:
5,160 rounds of .223rem (Wolf Poly/Radway Green) 4,000 rounds of 7.62x39 (Wolf Poly/Laquer) 2,000 rounds of 9mm (Ultramax and AA) figured instead of buying a $1700 M1A rifle, I will just bulk up on ammo instead on another thread some jerkoff put a BS flag icon up after my post. going through life with a small penis must be tough

It hasn't been a problem for me so far. The last addition to my stash was a case of WCC844 and that was a couple of months ago. I am contemplating pulling the trigger on an ammo deal that I just discovered. If I decide to drop the hammer, I will reveal the location once my order has shipped. If I decide not to, then I will reveal it. It isn't a caliber that is in great demand on this board, so it isn't like I am being an ass about it. |

No deals in my paper. I am sad to say but most of the deals are up north. People in the southern states buy ammo and store for another hurricane natural disastor or such. I got 1K 5.56 Federal brass for $20.
