nope it works with any 9mm bolt.

I'm guessing the side charger handle grabs the bolt carrier the same way a standard charging handle does, by interfacing with the step on the top-front surface of the carrier. I think the modified cam pin is only needed on normal AR BCGs because the location of the side charging handle would interfere or run into a standard cam pin, so you need the "relieved" pin in that application.
