This thread will be for posting information on triggers that work. and the ones that don't work for 9mm AR.
It will become a searchable database for those needing 9mm AR trigger information. I ask that posters keep information limited to a couple things. What trigger you have that works. What bolt you are using. What lower and what upper you are using. Then just let others know what triggers didn't work for you and include any other relevant info at the bottom of your post. Like simple mods to make them better, etc. Please guys....... add your specs ASAP so we can have a solid database of information that can be shared and searched to help others that are learning about the 9mm AR platform. And it will also help guide others when they need to diagnose any on-going trigger issues. ------------------------------------------------------------ What I suggest is that you start will a std mil-spec trigger, as this will work with most bolts 99% of the time. Then just move up to a better trigger once the gun operates 100%. Same with buffers and springs...start simple, get it up and running, then begin to make the subtle changes to improve the baseline set-up. My recommendation for carbines is a std carbine spring, the 5.4-5.5 oz buffer, and a buffer bumper. Those three items together cost about $30-35 at midway/other online vendors. ---------------------------------------------------------- These are current combinations that are running solid for me.... Gun 1- Trigger...POF 4.5lb drop-in Bolt........Spinta blem Lower.....PSD Colt style mags Upper.....NFA side-charger Buffer.....AR Stoner brand 5.4oz Std Carbine spring NFA bumper Gun 2- Trigger.....POF 4.5lb drop-in Bolt..........NFA non-modular Lower.......NFA Glock mags Upper.......NFA side-charger w/ LRBHO Buffer.......AR stoner 9mm 5.4oz std carbine spring NFA bumper Gun 3- Trigger....PSA nickel boron coated mil-spec Bolt.........Spinta blem Lower......PSD colt style mags Upper......NFA side-charger Buffer......AR stoner 5.4oz 9mm std carbine spring NFA bumper Gun 4- Trigger....Delta team tactical 3.5lb drop-in Bolt.........NFA modular Lower.....NFA Glock mag Upper.....NFA side-charger w/ LRBHO buffer.....AR stoner 5.4oz 9mm std carbine spring NFA bumper --------------------------------------------------------------------- The one trigger that didn't work very for me was the Rise Armament RA140. The hammer isn't rounded, so it would hang up on the bolt ramp sometimes. Hammer profile is something you need to take a look at before using with a 9mm bolt. If it isn't rounded enough, it will have trouble resetting correctly. --------------------------------------------------------------------- I'll include some links to previous trigger threads below. Past AR 15 trigger thread Past AR 15 trigger thread . |

I use a plain-jane milspec FA trigger group in my RR running an Olympic-pattern 9mm upper. Only issues I've ever encountered were with some milsurp sten mags, otherwise, it's just boringly reliable, in full or semi, with mostly cheap steel-cased 9mm (ulyanovsk, brown bear, silver bear). Lower wears a fixed stock and rifle buffer, so I've never had any of the carbine stock/buffer issues trying to tune it between 9mm and rifle caliber uppers.

New JP Bolt is a NO GO with the Larue MBT (at least for me)

Built a few over the past year....
PSA upper.... PSA Hybred bolts Anderson Lowers with Hahn mag adaptor Metalform(colt) mags The Hiperfire 24C works in all of them...no problems 2 1/2 pound triggers using the plain heavy springs==heavy springs gives the lightest trigger pull I also use a JP trigger(JP speed hammer also)in my main PCC with a 2 1/2 pound trigger pull also. This works very well BUT.....I did tig weld a bump on the underneath side of the bolt to help reset the trigger. Added .040 to the area under the bolt to help reset the trigger 100% of the time. Found that I didn't need to add this "bump" when I used the Hiperfire 24C. Very happy with this set up. |

If I could make a suggestion....
I think the buffer style and weight should be included as well. I really think my BCG might actually work with the standard length carbine buffer, rather then the longer 9mm dedicated length buffer I use. Allowing a slightly longer length of BCG travel might reset the trigger properly.... but at the cost of the BCG slide lock / release.. |

Trigger: Giessele G2S in mine.
My set up Upper: 16 in with Colt bolt ramped by Rudy aka Mad-Machinist (Macon Armory) Lower: DDLES - Now QC10- Colt mag Buffer: Spike ST-9X with standard carbine spring. Been running flawlessly for over 4 yrs and about 4k rds without issues. Gun is dead nuts reliable and is like a laser. Prior to this the gun was on a standard lower using a deciated Rock River Arms 9mm hammer. I've owned this 9mm upper since 1998 and believe it may have well over 20k rds thu it. |

This set up does not work
Trigger: Elftmann Match - Curved Bolt: Kaw Valley Precision Upper: Anderson milspec and PSA milspec (keyhole and square forge, respectively Lower: Black Creek Precision Buffer: KAK Industries Heavy 9mm Fails to reset about 50% of the time. I suspect if you used a regular buffer and quarters and allowed just a hair more bolt travel it would work. Same setup works 100% with Geissele SSA-E and G2S triggers. |

WHAT DIDN'T WORK:
Trigger...Geissele SSA-E and SSA Bolt........KVP Lower.....NFA 80% LRBHO Glock Upper.....NFA Stripped LRBO Side Charger behind KVP Carbon Fiber Free Float Tube and 16" KVP 9mm Barrel Buffer.....KVP 7.5 oz Buffer and AR9 buffer tube kit under magpul fixed moe carbine stock Springs tried....KVP Extra Power 17-4 SS PCC Spring standard carbine spring spare standard carbine spring AR-Pistol spring Larue white carbine spring Larue red hi power carbine spring Neither trigger's hammer would reset. Also tried removing weight from KVP BCG. Then tried a standard carbine spring with a standard carbine 3oz buffer. Still no dice. WHAT WORKED: Same as above, but with Hiperfire Hipertouch 24C Trigger. Apparently it wasn't a 'timing issue' like I first thought...it was simply trigger compatibility. Trigger...Hiperfire Hipertouch 24C @ 2.5# +/- Bolt........KVP BCG Lower.....NFA 80% LRBHO Glock Upper.....NFA Stripped LRBO Side Charger behind KVP Carbon Fiber Free Float Tube and 16" KVP 9mm Barrel Buffer.....KVP 7.5 oz Buffer and AR9 buffer tube kit under magpul fixed moe carbine stock Spring....KVP Extra Power 17-4 SS PCC Spring Ammo --- used X-Treme 135g Round Nose Flat Points......and had no issues feeding or ejecting the Flat Points with the KVP BCG & Barrel combo. NEW: I swapped the KVP 7.5 oz buffer and Extra Power spring for a Blitzkrieg Hydraulic Buffer and JP Tuned & Polished carbine spring. Works! Works better! Able to get double taps much quicker with this set up. Does it completely remove recoil and muzzle rise? No. But it does improve it considerably. Is it worth $140? Meh, if you want better, it's better, but at a cost. It's not magic however. |

Bolt........JP 9mm Lower.....NFA/JoeBob Upper.....NFA/JoeBob Side Charging Handle Buffer.....JP 9mm Barrel.....Ballistic Advantage 5.5" (soon to be Odin 7.5 due to rail clearance). Ran about 250 rounds through it, not even one hiccup. Ran flawless. Barely any visible wear marks on the bolt. Trigger didn't have any issues either. Last Round Hold Open works with original Glock 33 round, Glock 26 (12 round), and Magpul G19 (15 round). One thing I did notice is now much dirtier the lower receiver gets compared to a regular AR. Guess it's the blowback action fouling the inside... |

I may put the regular trigger spring in as that is a little lighter than what I was hoping to achieve.2 Only able to fire 25 rounds after the install as a storm came up and the rain ran me off. If something happens other than running fine I will update this post. Update. I have 2 uppers for this lower with one being 10.5" and the other being 4.5". They both work great. The 4.5" upper uses a Spinta Precision bolt. Still working perfectly both suppressed and not. |

Greetings,
Great idea OP, thanks! For the data base: Trigger...Gieslee SSA/E (had also successfully used "G" SSA and RR National Match 2 stage for short time periods). Vastly prefer the SSA/E, which has been in for 98% of the time. No functional issues with the others. Bolt........RockRiver, ramped and Glock mag cut by ADCO Lower.....Original DDLES small frame, Glock Mag type, with updated LRBHO hardware parts from QC-10 Upper.....Home brew; RR forging, YMH 16" barrel, Apex handguard Buffer.....Slash 9Q (recently replaced with old Endine Hydraulic for experimentation) Spring....Wolf Extra power carbine length The carbine worked just about perfectly since the initial build with the exception of the LRBHO which did not at all. Since the updated parts from QC-10 were installed, it's been virtually perfect. No issues at all regarding the FCG. The other two mentioned were short term attempts to help figure out some minor tuning issues, but worked just fine. The SSA/E is a really nice unit which I've also used in a few other (non 9mm) builds. Keep up the good work! Regards, Jim |
