I am in my first build and something that should be so easy is becoming one of the most difficult things to accomplish. I don't want a suppressor under my rail. I want a 7" - 7 1/2" barrel. Most, if not all rail manufacturers jump from 4" to 7" so THIS is the problem. A barrel will sit about an inch inside the receiver so now the barrel length is 6" which means a 7" hand guard is 1" TOO LONG. I could go 8" barrel but most manufacturers jump from 5.5" to 7"

A note to all the manufacturers on this site.... FILL THIS GAP and you will clean house.

I don't need my gap filled.

Spinta has 7.5", 8", and 8.5"

Or, if you run a muzzle device, like the KAK flash can, that will get you past a handguard if your barrel comes up a bit short.

ETA - or cut your rail to fit the barrel you want to use.

Look at the daniel defense Omega-X 7" rail. It's cut slightly short to fit behind the hand guard cap.  I'll see if I can get some photos next to a 7.5" barrel this evening.

QC10 7 1/2" barrel and 6.44" handguard.  Only the threaded portion of the barrel protrudes from the handguard.

I used a CMMG Barrel which is 8.5. With a UTG Pro Super Slim Rail the threaded portion, about 1/2", sticks out forward of the rail.

I'm guessing it's not a very large market gap, but it sounds like there are a couple options.

Ballistic Advantahe has 8.3" barrels that work perfect with 7" handgaurds.

YES! Thanks! ^^Angelbeast6^^ suggested them too and I really like the looks of the ION 6.7" Lite M-Lok. I might pull the trigger on that one. Rudy, at Macon Arms also sent me info if I choose to go with a different length barrel. At this time, the new hand guard might be the easier option since it will involve me returning one less part because I can keep my current barrel.

Are you a submariner or ex/ retired submariner? I was on the USS Richmond K Turner CG20 from 86-88 then on the USS Robert E Peary FF 1073 from 89-92. C school in Pensacola, FL in 89

Get a cheap 16" and have it cut down

ADCO also used to sell 9mm barrels made from the off fall of cut down barrels might be worth a check to see if they have (or can make you exactly what) you are looking for.

Which is the exact reason we switched to 8.3" from the original 8.0" we used to make. Precisely to fill this gap.

And there it is! Maybe I did not do as extensive research as I believed I did.
