what glass for a 4" barreled, full time suppressed 22lr AR pistol?  I was thinking a primary arms red dot but I'd also like a variable like 1x-4x.  What do you all use/recommend?

I have less than great eyesight, but have not come to the point to need glass on anything with a 4" barrel.

Got bad eyesight?

Vortex or PA 1-4x/1-6x?

I wouldn't put a variable on mine. It's not like a 4.5" .22LR barrel is designed for long bench sessions where you're trying to knock the wings off of flies at 100 yards...

What range is the Vortex parallax free?

I put a Vortex Crossfire 1-4 vbrite on mine.

With a 20 yard zero (which is awesome for this build), the 3moa hash mark on top impacts at 50 yards, and the 3moa has mark on the bottom lines up with 100yd.

It's a great scope for small game hunting. You own everything from 0-100.

Even with the bottom 3moa hash mark, you can hit steel plates at 100 yd with ease.

I like the Vortex over the PA. PA scope seems too long for my tastes.

I learn something every day on this site. I'm going to play around with my PA 1-6x mounted to my 4.5" 22LR and see if I can get the BDC marks to be meaningful for 10-100 yards.

Have anything hanging around the house?   I upgraded my AR so my 22 got the hand me down.

A Red dot from Primary Arms or Holosun would work just fine.  I would only use a 1-4 occasionally to test for groups.

I have one exactly like yours with a primary arms red dot. Most of the shooting I do is well within 50 yards, most of the time under 30 yards. Works great for my needs.

ETA here is a picture. ignore my beautiful knees

I have an el cheapo Tasco red dot on my 4.5" 22LR upper.  I don't see a reason for any magnification on something like that.  I pretty much never shoot it beyond 25 yards. It'll shoot further, but even out to 100 it's not like you really need any magnification.

Red dot should be fine. I hit clays at 80 and 100 yards all day with both setups below. As always your milage (or your eyes) May very.
