Wanted to get some thoughts and opinions on a 9mm A1 retro style SBR build.
I personally think it would be an awesome little gun to add to the collection.

Main Component List:

Yeah it would be sweet...a 607 in 9mm
I went with the bottom 635
I gave up on trying to piece together all the stupid compatibility issues & just went 100% Colt

Sounds good.
I've been wanting to do one in 22 cal or 9mm maybe both. I just need to free up some funds.
The first ar i ever saw up close was an xm177.
Some guy out in the desert when we were rabbit hunting. He let me shoot it and i was hooked.

I don't know why i haven't built one, but now you got me thinking again.

You should be able to find an original Colt carry handle 9mm upper.  I see them on EE from time to time.

Thanks for posting the pics.
I already have the lower and just ordered the 10.5" upper and handguards.
I will probably build as a pistol first to function check and then file my paperwork to SBR.

I am thinking of doing one. I have a dedicated lower and other parts laying around. It will end up being a 10.5" barrel. I like the look of them.

pics I found somewhere on the interweb(thanks to Al Gore)
I'm digging the retro builds: triangle hand guards, CAR buttstocks & may change all my rifles over to them(look for huge Magpul/BCM/DD sale...LOL
I don't have stamped SMG lower though.I hate seeing those chopped lowers ,but looks like good resurrection job. I'm not that talented in the shop

I got two sets of the handguards in the mail today, glad I didn't wait as JSE is all sold out.
They seems to be well made and will look good on the 10.5" upper.

Will be interested to see how that 7075 welding holds up under the recoil of the 9x19mm.  Looks purty.

Had the same concerns myself but we're going strong here, maybe 350 rounds in now. I took note of all the roll pin holes for the two piece mag Colt adapter should the lower fail or I want to build another 80%'er on my milling machine. Love the damn thing though, its a complete pleasure to shoot, you can feel the additional weight in the rear of the bolt and buffer when its cycling. An overall excellent shooting rifle.

I did a sorta-retro build using an A1 upper that I had with a Green Mountain barrel. and an ArmaLite clamp-on FSB I did use a 3-lug adapter at the end of it since all of my PCC/subgun cans are 3-lugged.

Getting closer, still need to swap out the handguard retainer, get an A1 grip and pistol buffer tube to put on it to test it out.  Then file the form 1 and get the stock.

I just found a dozen 11 inch barrels that have the legacy FSB position on them......I usually do a set screw attach on the FSB on pistol caliber.....original DI45 prototype was done that way and it hasn't lost zero over 27,000 rounds....

Hmmm, just picked up a stripped A1 upper.....haven't decided what to do with it yet.

The triangle carbine handguards and A1 cap were from JSE Surplus.
It appears they are sold out now.

Got the front sight base removed only to find out that I ordered a .750 handguard cap and I actually need a .625 handguard cap.  I put the handguards on any way and will do a final assembly once I get the proper handguard cap.  I love the looks and feel of the upper, can't wait to SBR it.

That sounds very similar to tbe 9mm Colts my PD carried back in the 80s/90s.  With reliable mags they were grat little guns!
