Decided against 10.5" barrel and settled on something around 8.5" so I can use a 7" rail and still be able to thread on a suppressor. I see CMMG has a 8.5 as does X Products. Has anyone used either of these barrels?

I ideally want a QC10 barrel as they appear to have tweaked the face of the barrel for reliability but they only have a 7.5 and 10.5 and as last resort will get a 10.5 and cut it down if they have the most reliable option. I currently use a 5" tros 3 lug on ddles sbr colt magazine lower.

+1 on this

I have a 4.5" ADCO barrel with a QC10 Colt style lower.  Runs great... no issues with the only mags I have (Metalform) and CMMG BCG.

That's good to know. I also use a cmmg bolt and metalform mags. Did not realize they did custom lengths.

Macon Armory is another option.  He'll make whatever length you want.

I have a CMMG 8.5 and it has been 100%. It end exactly at the end of a UTG Super Slim carbine length.

The only thing I didn't like was when I bought it it.showed it being square from the shoulder of the muzzle back to the chamber. When I got mine it is tapered from the chamber to muzzle then flares back to normal thickness just before the muzzle threads. But its really no big deal and doesn't seem to affect anything.

I shop at Green Mtn. They supply a few different vendors. Why not go to the source. OR buy a 16" one of the EE and cut it down.

It is 8.5" long.  1/2-28 threads.
These were made for another manufacturer and are some left overs from the production run.  Green Mountain blanks.  Nitrided inside and out.
I've also got some that are 8", 6", 14,5 and 16" that I'll be listing later this evening.

Just for clarification, these are Green Mountain blanks but NOT turned by them.   We turn them in house.  I don't think Green Mountain lists an 8.5" and we will be listing these lower than any 9mm AR barrel they have on their website.

Now that I have one of these barrels on the way, looking for input if there would be any issue swapping the CMMG bcg I currently have in my upper with a tros barrel, into the new upper with the barrel I have on the way. Anything I should check or can the bcg be freely swapped between both uppers?

Thanks

Barrel arrived. Super quick shipping from MicroMoa. Extremely smooth purchase and great communication. They have a few of these overrun barrels for those that want one.

Will un box and may get a picture or two posted later.

Thanks again for the great deal. It'll be a few weeks before I get my rail in and this to the range. Then I'll test it suppressed and unsuppressed and be in touch if any questions come up and I'll leave feedback in this thread.

Not sure about the new Colt style QC10 BCG, but the their Glock BCG is slightly different from the CMMG models.  The lower part of the QC10 bolt face is about 1/8 inch shorter than the CMMG.  The extractor is also different.  The CMMG is on the left and the QC10 on the right in the picture below.

I have 2 9MM ARs, both with DDLES lowers. The CMMG BCG feeds and ejects with no problems in either one, but the last round bolt hold open operates intermittently.   The QC10 BCG runs 100% when swapped into either rifle, with and without a suppressor.

If the LRBHO works okay in your old upper, should be no problem running it in your new upper.  If not, you may want to consider a QC10 BCG.  Cost $235 but was well worth in my case.

Hope this helps,
Pete

That is helpful. Thank you. I hope to get it running earlier than planned and to the range next weekend to test how it runs when swapped between the two uppers.

Just ordered an 8" barrel, I've had an upper sitting around NIB so time to  complete it. Also ordered from HK parts a 3lug 1/2x28 adapter, can't justify $240 for a Tros barrel and to impatient to wait either plus if I don't like it I can just take off and back to 1/2x28 for a FH.

How much is shipping on these barrels to 45233? The price it'll cost me to get my 10.5 cut and threaded is about equal to buying one of these barrels

Just for clarification when I asked if a standard 1/2x28 would fit I was talking about the depth.... Hoping the thread protector shoulders against the barrel

What thread protector are you using?

I ran mine this morning for the first time. I have one of the 8.5". Didn't test accuracy at all, just function, will test accuracy in a week or so. The upper had a handful of failure to feeds with 115gr Speer lawman tmj. All jammed and brass was left with half moon dent near the mouth. I often get the same with my 5"tros barrel upper too. I then swapped over to 147gr Speer lawman tmj, not expecting the flat nose profile to run well but was extremely happy that it ran 100 of them without a single issue. Ran them both suppressed and unsuppressed.

On at least one of the 115gr jams I noticed the hammer had not reset so perhaps my slash 9QT buffer is too heavy for the 115 unsuppressed. I will drop the weight to 12oz or so and test that soon.

That's not buffer, ammo, etc it's the barrel causing the issue. Mad-Machinist can fix that quick, he has already for a few members, after him it will function with all rounds. IM or email him.

It's just a random thread protector off amazon. Really don't care for it, it's a bit too long, but I will adjust its size whenever I get a chance. I'm in no rush though, considering it's only on there when shooting unsuppressed
