The weather finally broke here and I got to the range today.
Got to try out my new Macvon Armory .45 D.I. upper.
I stopped by Academy and picked up targets and 100 rounds of Monarch 230 gr. FMJ. It was cheap and I wanted to see if the upper would cycle with cheap ammo.

The upper has a:
mil spec upper receiver
M.I. Key-Mod Gen ll hand guard
M.I. SPLP folding BUIS
Rainier Arms BCG--Rudy replaced the bolt with a custom .45 bolt
Macon Armory .45 16" barrel with A2 FH .45 cal 5/8"
Macon Armory Gas block and gas tube.
Lower is mil spec
Macon Armory Mag block adapter for .45 ACP.
Carbine buffer and spring.

The .45 D.I. upper ran without a hitch. Slow fire, rapid fire. Not one malfunction.
Accuracy with the Cheap 230 gr. Monarch was 2-3" at 50 yards.
Recoil is very mild. Easy follow up shots.
The rounds seemed to stay sub sonic. Lots quieter than a 5.56.

This upper is literally a blast to shoot. It's a lot of fun and makes a thump when you hit the back stop.
My camera went down before I could get any shots of the targets.
My old Hakko also went down so I was shooting with irons.

Rudy at Macon Armory answered all my questions and was great to talk with. Just a good ole boy. He's done a real nice job with these.

I like it!
It would make a nice pistol with a shorter barrel

Posts like these is why this subform cost me so much year after year!

Looks like next year's builds will have to include a DI .45....

I got to say, the more I shot it, the more I liked it.
It's not a precision piece but it would sure lay a hurting on a body inside 100 yards.
With the AR buffer system, the barrel barely moves.

I expected it to be dirtier than it was too. Not a lot of residue.

What is a good .45 acp for decent accuracy testing?

.45 ball will still be subsonic from a 16" barrel.  From what I've read it pretty much tops-out speed-wise from about an 11"  barrel - about 930 fps. - you don't gain (or lose) much with a 16" barrel.  I always figured that's why the Thompson was equipped with an 10.5" barrel.

I'll most likely have this cut to 11" or just have Rudy replace it.

Like I said, the more I shoot it, the more I like it!

The 7.5" cycles well?

I'm told the shorter barrels work GREAT on the dedicated lowers.....but because of positioning and the way the mag must fit in the adapter to function.....can't run much shorter than 11 inch with the USC adaptor.

Well, that's something I'd ask Rudy about but I can't figure how barrel length would affect feeding.

It's a gas thing.
I've got a 10" upper from Rudy. It's awesome. I was having some feeding issues. Turns out it was my mag block adapter. He swapped it out for a newer version. Hand cycled perfect, hitting the range tomorrow to run it some more.

Going to try some premium ammo this weekend to see what kind of groups I can get.

Love this .45 upper combo.

I don't know why he was banned, but to get back he would need to make peace with the Site Staff who banned him.

As in, promise to not do what got him banned.

Selling without an industry membership I believe.

He's told me he's willing to pony up if they let him back.

Yep, Rudy apologized, assured the staff it wouldn't happen again and agreed to site sponsorship.

Hopefully they will let him do that.

Becoming an Industry Partner here at AR15 is not a cheap thing to do. Rudy will have to sell a lot of guns to make up the cost. Both Ron and Rudy were banned in December because they were both not playing well and because they were advertising (According to AR15's Staff and the standing rules here). Ron Williams opted not to pay their demand. I wish Rudy good luck. Actually, it's AR15's loss in the case of Ron. He sells a lot more AR's and silencers through federal contacts than here and it's just not worth the money to him at this time.

Oh SpecOps-13 you make me laugh every time - ever looked at your own signature?  Are you Ron or is Ron you?

It's our loss for not having Rudy here as well.

I feel partly responsible because Rudy offered to help me in a thread, which was probably taken as advertising.

You should feel somewhat responsible too, since you were fanning the flames with your biased views and creating animosity in the PCC industry. Totally unnecessary since both Rudy and Ron are accomplished builders.

If you are reading Rudy, it's nearly finished. Thank you for your help and support.

Ron is Ron and I am Dave. Sorry it's hard for you to see the difference. But it really doesn't bother me. Laugh Away...
Actually, you complement me by the comparison though. So Thanx...........

Rudy contacted me and appreciates the support.

From Rudy

"I want to let everyone know I am keeping up with the pistol caliber forum.....and hope to be back. Bottom line...don't blame the staff......... I was wrong and will abide by the decisions of the staff. I know I am on the waiting list for Industry Partner and when I come up my status will be reviewed at that time. Thank you all for the kind words and if I can help anyone with a tech problem............ I'm not hard to reach. We have a LOT of new things on the horizon and look forward to sharing with y'all when it is appropriate.......and in our Industry Forum. ;-).
