Bubba, you need to make a road trip and come see me in Macon....my situation has changed from when we first talked, I now have a nice new shop, stocked with a Haas CNC Lathe and Mill and a Mitutoyo optical comparator with DRO not to mention a compliment of manual machines.....and a programmer that is wicked good.... We are making AR45 uppers fast enough that I am starting to build stock and have them ready for shipment, and a few other surprises.....let me know what drawings you need I have most and they are not net downloads with suspect dimensions. send me an email to [email protected] and I'll send you what I have print wise on the mags.....in PDF format......and you can zoom hell out of them...they are all originals.

Bump for progress report and to prevent archiving.

Thanks. Still on hold for now. I've been trying to get the new place set up. Got my furniture delivered today FINALLY.
Will be setting the second bedroom up as a work room. Hopefully, I can get something designed to where I can do basic gunsmithing, reloading, and a little kydexsmithing (<- lol I think I made a new word).
I will also see about adding a spot to where I can draw stuff out instead of relying on my computer to do all the work. I have so many files that are mixed up I don't know what's what anymore, and that's not just talking about this project.

How have I missed this?

Well before AR45fan's post, it had been a month since my last post on this thread. That's probably about 8 pages back on the thread list, if I had to guess.
It's been slow on posts from me because I haven't had this on the priority list to work on and therefore I haven't posted on it.

About the only progress I've made is getting a few more mags to tinker with.
I have been looking for some AR15 blueprints, similar to what would be in the tech data packs, but haven't really had any luck.
I know in that pack is a few blueprints for the GI mags. There are a few things I would like to know before I even start on working with a GI version of this project.

I'll make a deal with everyone. If I can get a copy of those prints and I get this project going, I'll let you test some mags out and even get to keep a couple for free. The prints must be good quality and not all pixelated if in digital form. If in hard copy form, they need to be big enough that I can read every detail on them.

Update: Yes I did and it ran flawlessly with my AR45 lower and a variety of my GI Grease Gun magazines.  And it made a nice, single hole on the target.  I'll post a good picture in the .45 conversion guide thread when I get her "dressed".

In the mean time, I have always been excited by this P-Mag conversion project just because I have a "thing" for .45 ARs and now that I have a DI upper I am REALLY hoping this gets off the ground.  I'd love to be able to run this new upper on my standard SBR lower and / or my AR pistol lower and use my plate carrier set-up as-is.

Anyway, thanks Rudy, chevcamo, and all you creative, skilled guys that keep this hobby fresh and moving forward.

Sounds like I might need to take a road trip. I'm sure my work would love that seeing as they haven't even approved my vacation time request for July.
What Haas models do you have?
I've gotten to where I actually like the Doosan models we have at work. My primary machine is a Doosan HM 8000, but have 8 other CNCs that I've ran there, 3 that I've kinda just watched while it ran, and 2 that I've only helped setup.. all Doosan.
Also, what software do y'all use to program and draw with?
I recently stepped up my software collection. I now have the following listed at the end plus some.
Needless to say to get all that on my computer will consist of needing some serious upgrades. It's really time for an upgrade anyway to a desktop instead of a laptop because I can do so much more with a desktop like linking two screens together to do multiple things at the same time.

One thing I've also been trying to figure out is how to approach Magpul to get dimensional information from the without getting the callous reply I once got from Drake when I first started this project.
I got a the rest of their AR mags to deal with and have noticed one thing I was hoping not to have to deal with on the new model. The internal dimensions are different from the M2 models; therefore, I will have to have an extra set of pieces if I get all this going completely like I want it. The only thing I worry about with contacting Magpul is that they take the idea and run with it themselves. It would be super easy for them to do it as well since they have all the dimensions I need and it wouldn't take much work to get all new internal components made and three new springs made to have the project as theirs.

I will try to get an email reply sent to you confirming my email, but just in case I don't here it is.
[email protected]

The blueprints I need are the blueprints on the GI mags. The data pack I have that's in super poor quality have four pages to do with the mag, two on the body, and one each on the follower and floor plate. Also the bolt carrier, should be two pages for all the details. Lastly, the bolt. Not sure how many pages for it. The rest of the data pack is missing I'm sure because it doesn't have the rest of the internal parts given. Below is what the pages look like that I have now. And it gets worse as you zoom in to try to decode the numbers.

That's going to be it for now as I need to get my ass in bed and get some sleep do I don't have to sit in another 90 minute long meeting about how it's unacceptable for us to be "late" when we clock in on time. I'm sorry if I'm not super enthused about not getting paid to warm up the machines in the morning. Pay me for that time that I'm on the clock and maybe I'll come in the extra time you want me to you know. I mean really you want up there 15 minutes early to get all the machines warmed up but don't pay us for it, I'm not doing it as it only take three minutes for my machine to do it's warm up cycle anyway, not like that's going to amp up production very much. **** Anyway I had to let that out since I didn't dare say it in the meeting today as they would probably not have liked what else I wanted to say at the time. ****

Yes and no.

I've been working on some other projects and been working more hours at work, so time is a little limited on this. That's the no.

The yes, is I've gotten the needed prints for some of the mags I can work on and have been skimming over them when I get a free minute at work. I've come to the conclusion on those that I'm just going to have to pop open a mag to measure the inside as the prints measure from the outside.

I've been working on getting some money put together so I can get some parts printed for the 20 round PMag that way I have something that's in theory working so I can contact Magpul in hopes of getting some info from them and have something that I can show them proof that I'm not just trying to steal their designs. If it weren't for not wanting to destroy a perfectly good magazine, I'd just cut some open and measure away on all the ones I have, which is pretty much every model they have out that works with an AR.

Other than this project, I'm having to learn more on robotics, aviation, arduino, things to do with varied altitude marksmanship (coriolis effect, elemental magnetism, air density variations, yada yada),  and a few other things. Some of the things I was getting paid for to do, but some of them lost the contracts or what not on with the people I was helping out and not I'm doing it as a personal project as once I prototype is finished the contract can very well be picked back up.

Looking back, this thread is now nearly 2 years old. Sorry if I sound cynical, but I don't see this happening any time soon. Any suggestions as to what other magazines to use for my DI45? I have a modified grease gun magazine and block from Bazooka brothers, but really don't care for all that magazine sticking down below the gun. A 30 round capacity is nice, but I'd be happy with much less, if the magazines were realatively cheap and readily available. Handgun mags would be ideal. I was thinking of using Para P14 mags and seeing if a machinist friend of mine could make me a block and modify them to work.

I make a slip in Magwell adaptor that uses HK USC mags available from Promag. They come in 10,15 and 20 round capacities.....I prefer the 15's. It uses a paddle release and has last round bolt hold open capability. Slight mod to the bottom of the bolt carrier is required to provide clearance for the feed lips of the magazine. We are in the middle of running the  ver 2 adaptor with improvements to the feed ramp. Shot the protoytpe today......and will be testing the rest of the week.....will start production probably monday if all goes well. As soon as we run 'em off to annodizing and we'll be ready to ship in a couple of weeks. Both options will require minor mods to the bolt carrier.

Here is a pic of mine with the adaptor

Another option is the QC10 large frame lower that uses Glock magazines......I'll be in their shop week after next and we are going to discuss optimizing the large frame lower for DI uppers....
Here is a pic of mine that runs on Glock mags

Alright, I'm back. Got my laptop repaired and then my screen went out. Got a new laptop and trying to get it set up like my last one. This one will definitely do better though, more RAM, hard drive, and a bigger screen.
Longest thing that's going to take is getting programs reinstalled and settings back like they were.

Any news?? I'm "using" Promag USC 20 rnd mags. Using is a loose term. 10s run perfect. 20s usually suck. I'm really hoping this comes through as a reliable option for us guys in ban states.

I emailed them in September and was told I would be contacted via email when lowers were ready. I offered to pay in full at that time and was told they don't take preorders, and was again reassured I would be contacted when lowers were ready. I saw on their website a couple weeks ago that these lowers were now "sold out". I received no email even telling me they were available. I emailed them to ask about this, and STILL haven't received a reply. I don't want to think or speak ill of people who seem to be held in high regard. I'm hoping this is just a misunderstanding or miscommunication and can be quickly resolved, has anyone heard if they are having problems or issues? I just want a glock mag lower for my DI45.....

Bumping this up for now. This has been on hold while fighting some people in court on some things as well as one guy pertaining to this project. The gist that I can give is I was contacted privately on another board about this and received court paper where the guy is trying to sue me for patent infringement or something like that. Until that is settled and decided, I'm not working on this at all. Could easily finish it and get some prototypes made, but don't want to deal with it right now as someone on here is following it as they are on the other forum.

On a different note, I'm looking at a different project that's come up and am looking for some blueprints again. For the life of me I can only find partials. If anyone has a set of Remington 700 prints, please IM or Email me about them. Or if you know where I can get my hands on a set, post here or send me a message.

Sorry to keep you guys hanging like this, just didn't want to say anything but I noticed it'd been a while since I've posted on here. Long enough I haven't even renewed my membership.

People suck, don't they?

Can you share the patent # they're claiming you're violating?

They do. Tomorrow should be the last day of this. It's not looking good for them. Their patent is pending but I'll see what info I can get as I don't have the files with me. I do know their design and my design is nothing close to each other.
Also I know you sent a PM, will do that here a a bit and to answer your question no due to the material you used.

If you make a design that fits a PMAG, Magpul will sue you. Maybe that's not what's going on right now, but if you make money on a product that uses their design, they will sue.

Doubtful.  Why would they?  You still would have to buy their magazine to use with his internals.  More win for Magpul. That would be like saying you couldn't replace Magpul's follower because Magpul would sue.
