THE IMAGE ABOVE IS A PAID ADVERTISEMENT
Buddy of mine is looking at getting either a M&P 15-22 or a .22lr upper for training. He would really like to get a dissipator style upper but I told him I didn't know of any company offering one.

Are there any out there?

I told him his options were

CMMG 18" upper cut down

CMMG 16" upper and figure how to move the FSB out further.

Am I missing anything?

Thanks

I don't see why you couldn't move the FSB or railed gas block out to rifle length.

If I'm wrong, someone correct me.

He could put a 13" free float hand guard and a flip up front sight. Some have the flip up built in.

Just get one of those clamp on fsb's and make your own. Most centerfire dissies have faux gas block fsb at rifle length anyway.

Or you could get a 20" upper and cut the barrel down, thread and recrown it.

The CMMG 18" goverment profile upper has a rifle-length handguard. The barrels in their .22lr uppers are set back about 1.5", so the upper at 16.5" sticking out from the receiver, is already pretty close to the length of a dissipator. I don't think he would have to cut it down at all.
