THE IMAGE ABOVE IS A PAID ADVERTISEMENT
My CMMG upper will be here on Thursday. While I plan to use it as it is this summer, I will most likely start changing it up in the fall or winter. I see there is no gas tube being it's a blowback. My first question is, even though there is no gas tube, is the barrel drilled for one? If not, I can completely remove the gas block ? Which brings me to the other question. I understand it is a standard upper so, can I install any freefloat tube I want?

There is no gas port drilled into the barrel. The only function of the gas block is to hold the hand guards and a plce for the front sight.
Any free float hand guard for an AR will fit.

If you ordered from CMMG, you could have a bit of a wait. I ordered from them and was told 2 to 3 weeks for back ordered parts and then 2 to 3 weeks buld time. I cancelled the order and got one from one of the vendors here on ARFCOM. (HanLund Tactical). He shipped the day after my order.

Most vendors do not offer the upgrades. Only the standard black bolt, though some stainless did appear to slip by.

That was the only disadvantage. I had to go with the black bolt. Normally I would have just waited but I actually need the upper by mid July for a rimfire action match. If there is any problems with the bolt, I can always order a stainless one later.

I went direct with CMMG because I wanted the stainless steel bolt upgrade. I'm very glad I did! I believe I waited about 4-5 weeks.

And they do not stay stock for long. The 22 is dressed in OD green

Ok. My upper came today. It didn't stay stock for 5 minutes. I put the MOE handguards on until I decide exactly what way to go with it. I also had to get rid of the flash hider and bayo lug. (nj's ridiculous laws)

That deflector is great for those of us that shoot left handed.

I just sent my CMMG uppper off to Adco late last week. I recived delivery confirmation today that it is on the way back to me. I am very impressed with the turn around. Here is my before photo. I had it cut to use on my SBRs it will look more like a 10.3" upper now but should be about 11.8" I think. I asked him to cut it on the action side of the M203 cut.

I will post a follow up photo in a few days.

Forgot to mention. The upper has a stainless bolt assembly but the collar is parkerized. (I ordered it with the black bolt)
