THE IMAGE ABOVE IS A PAID ADVERTISEMENT
I see some are trying to figure out what barrel length will give the look with
what length barrel.
This will help with the short barrel builders
.
.
AR dedicated 22 barrel length and hand guard fit for SBR and Pistol builds
––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––-

The muzzle threads will be at the end of a hand guard with

5.5" barrel and a 4.25 hand guard
8.25" barrel and a 7" hand guard
10.25" barrel and a 9" hand guard
13.25" barrel and a 12" hand guard

add .500 for exposed threads ouside of the hand guard if needed.

Some hand guards are .25 to .50 longer, add barrel length to get the look you like.
––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––-

For a 5" suppressor to be exposed aprox 1" outside of a hand guard you will need.

4.5" barrel and a 7' hand guard
6.5" barrel and a 9" hand guard
9.5" barrel and a 12" hand guard

Some hand guards are .25 to .50 longer, add barrel length to match if needed.

I thought this little chart would help those that are thinking of a custom build or chopping down a barrel
to get that desired look or fit.

Looks more like a 8.5" barrel

This is a 4.5" barrel
If you notice only 3.5" of the barrel is from the front of the reciever where the hand guard would start to the muzzle,
this leaves 1" inside of the reciever in front of the hand guard when it is on.
Example
If you have a 6.5" barrel - 1" inside the reciever in front of where the hand guard would start then you will
only have 5.5" of barrel under the entire hand guard from one end to the other.
Add the can length of 5" to the barrel length of 5.5" then deduct the muzzle thread length of lets say .400
you then end up with 10.1" of barrel and can.
With a 9" hand guard you can will be exposed 1.1" and that is plenty to get a grip on.
I have build many with only 1 inch a can exposed and its enough to get a good grip.

Redtazdog- not to jack the thread but what kind of accuracy are you getting with the 4.5" barrel? with and without a suppressor.

Average of 1" groups and better at 50 yrds if I bag the gun down and only use my finger on the trigger as my shooting skills are not
what they used to be

Bumping this to the front for the builders that keep asking about barrel and hand guard length

4.5" barrels seem to be the magic length to keep most hi velocity bulk pack ammo subsonic

I received my bbl today from Redtazdog and it looks awesome! The machine work is fantastic. This is my second time dealing with him and he definitely knows his .22 conversion stuff and knows what he's doing in making barrels. It's crazy how much better and tighter my collar and bolt fit it now. I will do some range testing with pics and report back once I get time and do a good bbl break in. Bbl is 4.5" with a specific thread spec for my SilencerCo SS Sparrow with o-ring engagement and a YHM Diamond cut FF carbine length FF handguard. For those interested her are some phone pics to hold you over.
Thanks.

If the tracking number is telling the truth your parts should be here Monday and if early
enough the upper will be back in the mail the same day

I really am .22 fat but I'd sure like to have a 10" built by Redtazdog!

This barrel seems to be showing some great potential so far with all types of ammo. Even CCI Stinger and Aguila 60gr. SSS. Shoots CCI Blazer very well which is my new favorite for cheap bulk.

It was shooting around 2-2.5" 10-shot groups at 50 yards. The real limiting factor is the EoTech and the 3x magnifier. Not to mention this set up is not real good at setting in sand bags but that is not what I built this gun for neither.

I hope to get a detailed range report with pics when I get around to it. I have all the targets and groups just need to take pics, etc.

Thanks fore the compliments guys, I love this set up!
