I saw 9mm and .40 cal magazines today.  They were full profile and looked as though they hold the bolt open on the last shot.   The guys selling them said .45acp was a few weeks out but in production.   Cost was $45 each and capacity was 20 rounds on the .40 mag I didnt find out what the 9mm holds.

I'd like to have some but the 20 round capacity is disappointing as is the $45 cost.    Hopefully Black Dog Machine will come up with something soon ( if they're not the maker of the Oly mag in the first place )

There are so many avenues to a.45 caliber AR-15 fed by Grease Gun mags (30 rounds and around $25.00 each) why bother?

To use a standard lower receiver.   I'd like about a 7" .45acp setup and SBR will cost me a $200 tax so it would be better to get multiple uses on the same lower.

My current .45acp rig uses M3 magazines and I've got a bunch of em.  I'd just rather not have to keep using a fixed stock or spend $400+ on a lower that can only use M3 mags.

Who had these?  I've been hearing that Oly will have pistol caliber mags for going on two years now.  I'm still holding my breath, but someone actually seeing them does make my heart go pitty-pat just a little.

Well, here's your answer as to wether or not BDM made them.

Go to Olympic's main page.  There's an announcement about the mags.  Looks like the capacity is gonna be 18 rounds.

I wonder what the .40/.45/10mm will look like.  My first thought looking at the 32 round 9mm one is, they couldn't have made it any bigger?  Hopefully they'll have some at the next big gun show in two weeks.

From what I have seen with the 9mm Oly mag I have...if you don't have an oly upper to run with it...you are out of luck......

They need to make a 20 round 9mm mag.  That 32 round mag is too damn long!

Correct, they only run with Olympic Arms uppers.

Why produce a magazine for everyone else to usurp?

They have been making 9mm, 40Sw, 10mm and 45acp rifles for what almost two decades?

Good stuff.

Yes.  I once asked an engineer at Ruger why they didn't made a different stock for the PC 9 and .40 carbines (since that's where the magwell is), to take Glock, Sig, S&W, etc mags.  If they did this, and departments could have used their existing issued pistol magazines, I was sure more would have adopted the PC Carbines.  They said they could control the quality of their own pistol magazines, but not other manufacturers, and did not want returns of their carbines due to functioning problems, which could possibly be due to other manufacturers magazines.

It did make sense to me.

Olympic making magazines for another manufacturer's pistol caliber AR is kind of the same deal.  Since they cannot control the quality, fit, or changes to other maker's products, I can see why they would not want to produce a magazine for them.

It took them FOREVER to get them out.

They'll have to work on that.

I have several BDM mags but these Oly Arms mags are durable to a much higher level.  Different materials.

Never said they should....was just hoping they would function with a normal bolt carrier..... maybe the .45 mags will.

If you call Oly, you should be able to order a 45 mag.  I got mine last week but have not had a chance to try it out.

Olympic Arms 45 ACP mag that I received with my rifle two weeks ago. Unfired as of yet. I;m not sure of the capacity of the mag, but I did get 14 rounds in it though. It does have the bolt hold open. I plan to sell the mag and the lower and use the upper on my AR45 lower.

Any chance you could try that mag with a 5.56 upper? I would love to know if a standard bolt will pass through the feed lips

Sir, no it will not pass thru the feed lips. The bottom two locking lugs of the bolt will engage the feeds lips. (About half of the lug is covered) I did not try just the bolt carrier.

Thanks I realy apreciate it. Sounds like too much material would need removing. I am already leary of the plastic.
Thanks again!
