No issues, other than I have to use a larger case (the 4.5 and 9 get transported/cased together). If I had to choose one, I'd take the 4.5" all day. It all depends how you are going to use it. For me, moving in an out of the truck, etc. The 4.5" is a dream come true. The same holds true for the 9" but things change once you add a can.

I bought the 4.5" primarily for no "crack" when hunting with standard ammo. So far, my luck has been limited. About the only thing I have been able to keep subsonic for standard velocity ammo is the Remington Thunderbolts. Have some Aguila in the works, and hope to test that this weekend (standard velocity). With HV 22LR EVERYTHING stays super, even the Remington golden bullets.

Why?

I want the ability to shoot without a suppressor. The 4.5" barrel doesn't work for that.

B/c your barrel is buried deep inside the handguard. I'm considering going with a longer barrel as well (for the exact same reasons).

You could do what I do.  If you shoot with a suppressor like a Sparrow or Surefire, you just replace the suppressor with a long 5.5 inch flash hider.  I have a 4.5" Taccom barrel, and alternate between the SureFire 22A and the long 5.5" flash hider.  Just put the flash hider on hand tight... check every mag or so... no issues.  $15 at Model1 Sales.

Good idea, but I also want to address the horrible accuracy of my TACCOM barrel. Maybe I got a lemon, but it prints like a shotgun.

I have not shot mine for groups.  Strictly a fun plinker on 8" steel plates 25 - 50 yards offhand.  Yup the paint chips looks like a shot gun hit it, but I pass that off to my terrible offhand shooting ability.  I'll have to take it to the local indoor pistol range and shoot paper from a rest.

The rifle I built for my son when he was little is evolving. Started out intentionally heavy to be shot off a bipod when he was 6 or 7.
Then

Now hes 12 and he doesn't need the weight to make sure it stays stable so we ditched the 87lb hand guard and have started replacing other bits as time and money allow. It is probably our favorite gun the shoot most days.

I already had a Del-Ton lower SBR'd with 300BLK and 5.56 uppers. Just added this .22 upper.

Started out as a CMMG 16" upper with free float 7" handguard and railed fake gas block.
I replaced the factory barrel with a TACCOM 7" ULW barrel.
added Bushnell TRS-25 red dot and MDUS sights
CAA short VFG
YHM stinger suppressor.

Swapped out the upper receiver for a slick side receiver.  This is pretty much how it will stay for now.  In the future I would like to get a Primary Arms micro dot and a free float rail.  I want to ditch the set screw FSB and either use a 12" Centurion Arms C4 like a couple of my 5.56 rifles or a 12" ALG EMR V3.  In place of the FSB I'll use a front MBUS.

Suppressed 15-22

[#39]
Swapped out the hand guards on my .22 build.  I originally wanted a 12" rail but I ended up with an extra 10" Centurion Arms C4 rail so I went with that instead.  I also decided to re-use the set screw FSB and it actually worked.  There's a slight gap on the forward portion where it goes over the M203 cut on the barrel but it's pretty secure.  I really cranked on the screws and I don't think it's going anywhere.  If it was supporting a drop in handguard I would not have done it but with a free float rail there no pressure being placed on the FSB.  I'll use it like this for a while and see if I like it and may swap it out for a front MBUS in the future.  Still need a Primary Arms red dot and then it will be pretty much finished.

Decided I didn't like the FSB so it's off now.  Added a front MBUS instead.  Also removed the YHM flash hider and put an A2 on it.  Just need a cheap red dot or prism scope.  Looking at either a Primary Arms micro dot or Primary compact 2.5x scope.

Finally decided to build a dedicated .22 upper.

Specs are:

Spikes nickel plated conversion. Spikes Lothar Walther 1/16 nitride barrel. Anderson upper. I also have a JAC conversion kit. Will have to run both.

Sitting on top of a Windham Weaponry lower.

Have not shot it yet, but hopefully this weekend.
