I figured it out. The lower came with instastripped threads.

Complete pistol was under $470, and it cycles fine, with acceptable accuracy, so I guess I can accept the threads being stripped. FWIW, the rep I spoke with said they will unscrew as long as you don't place even a modest amount of pressure on them. |
