Just got home with a Bushmaster A2 20" for $500.  Looks to be in great shape.  I already called Bushmaster with the serial number and it seems this rifle is from 2004, and the magazine it came with (dated 9/04 with LE only markings) seems to confirm that.

Unfortunately it is an HBAR, but I may have it reprofiled.  I recently purchased a Colt Sporter Match HBAR A2 that I decided to keep it original, this one, I'm really tempted to have the barrel taken down to Govt profile.

you would probably come out ahead if you sold the barrel and ordered a new one.

With prices these days, it will be less expensive to buy a barrel in the profile you desire instead of having that one reprofiled and I am sure you would have no problem selling the Hbar.

It's awesome.  However, I'm a wuss when it comes to 20" hbars.  No offhand shooting unless I'm in a match or something.  A govt handles sooooooo nice though.

I think you are wrong, there are many guys out there looking for barrels, but with the last 6 I have sold, nobody has asked about chrome, I get questions about the other coatings, but not chrome much anymore.

I do have to say, I was surprised last week, I bought a Bushmaster upper from a guy on EE and there was no mention of being a chrome lined barrel and that is what it had, made me happy.

Nice find OP, A2 rifles are a blast to shoot! I'm always surprised by what cabelas has in stock with used guns, great place to browse. Whether you leave it be or re profile it should be grest for years.

That's what the mag is dated.  The guys at Bushmaster didn't give me a date but said the serial number goes back to 2004.

I downloaded a 2005 Bushmaster catalog and found this exact model.  It could've been produced in 2004 and included in the 2005 catalog?  The 2004 catalog doesn't list anything with threads or flash hider, but it could've been made earlier in the year or even 2003.

Nice find! I recently bought a ban era A2 16" Bushmaster and swapped out the ban era 16" barrel for a lightweight 20" from Del-Ton

Probably assembled after the ban ended.

I have a Colt from 1997 with lug and FH, but it does have this on the mag well. IIRC the LE Bushmasters had similar markings.

If You turn it down maybe go pencil. I have an A2 gov. profile and a A1 pencil and the A1 seems much lighter when shooting. Nice find OP

Even a budget bbl with fsb pinned @ that price will be a stretch.

I know of none worth a shit @ $80-$120.

The problem there is the reprofile may only cost $80-120 but he could also sell the barrel instead of reprofiling and recoup that money towards a new one.  Say he sells this barrel for $150 on the EE, and picks up a new A2 barrel from Windham Armory, or Green Mountain for about $210-230 then he only has $60-80 more in the barrel and didn't have to deal with the trouble or wait time of having it done.  I have nothing against having it reprofiled if it is what he wants, but it is likely still cheaper to sell it and pick up a new one in today's market.  I'd personally go with Green Mountain, they make top of the line barrels that just seem to shoot better then most.

All of that said, someday I hope to build an A2 clone, and A4 clone with regular handguards like I had in basic/OSUT.  I know it'd probably be cheaper to go the Green Mountain route and I likely will but will probably keep an eye out for a more worn BFPU type FN barrel when that time comes.  You got yourself a nice rifle OP, I'd be very happy with a Bushmaster A2 they have always been nice rifles.

Nice find! I owned one and loved it for a long time. Mine had a slightly canted FSB though.

I'd leave it as is and shoot the crap out of it. Replace the barrel if/or when you shoot it out.

North Fort Worth.  I check the used gun racks pretty regularly.  The perks of living a few miles away and owning a motorcycle lol.

I do the same thing to the one here in League City. I find deals every couple of months ranging from firearms to my recent cooler purchase. They had used some coolers for staff during the recent Hurricane and then marked them down in the Bargain Cave.

Nice score!

I traded my dad my RRA rifle for his ban era Bushy A2 and sent it to Windham Weaponry to be re-barreled. The work they did was phenomenal, and they only charged me parts and shipping!
