CDNN Colts

I was wanting to build an A1 or A2, but then....

CDNN had two of these left at $800 so I figured I'd better jump on it.

Good price?

Great deal! you did well, I have a pair, one 20" and one 16". Great rifles, I paid $1200 each about ten years ago.

Nice rifle! You did very well. That's not a Sporter Match HBAR. It is a Colt AR 6601 leo gun from the ban era. Fairly scarce, not much info about them. I have one, but would have bought both at that price!

Thanks guys!  I'm pretty happy about this purchase; can't get closer to an original Colt than with an original Colt, and no building (even though building one is somewhat cathartic).

Can someone please recommend a correct sling for this one?

That's a good deal.

It would have come with a Silent Sling.  The synthetic, but not seatbelt material, web sling with two metal holders but no clasps or clamps.

So is it an HBar or not?  20" hbars are definitely front heavy, but have the potential to be really good shooters.  If it was an HBAR I'd think about putting a good leather sling on there and doing a match or two with it.

The pictures in the OP are from the website, and I linked to the product page; that's the extent of my knowledge.  Right now I only know what they advertised; I may know more whenever it arrives.

I picked up the gun today; looks really nice.

I'm trying to determine the year of manufacture but I've run out of internet looking for my serial number range.  Can anyone figure out this SN?  LMH0011XX

Good score. Look for a date stamp on the barrel near the front sight base. My ban-era LE6700 Competition HBAR is dated 10/97.

Those are just 223, not multi?

They're 5.56/.223.  Never assume an AR15s caliber by what's engraved on the lower receiver.

If yours is as clean as the one shown on their website, then it's definitely a good score OP

Some cell phone pictures; nothing great.  I haven't cleaned it up yet, so this is the condition in which it arrived.

The ad said it would come with one magazine, and there was a new one in the box. so I figured it was going to be a no-name one.  Turned out to be a Colt 30 round.

The included magazine is on the bottom, the other two are a couple 20 round mags I have.

Left side, right side, and the roll mark that didn't come out so good.

I'm pretty happy with it, can't wait to get out and put a few rounds through it.

EDIT to add: I got the hand guards off and there is no date anywhere, just this two digit number on the underside.

That number code means it is some time pre-'95 ish or so.  The rifle could have been build a bit later than that, though.

The earliest date code I have seen was a x/95 dated M4 barrel( the x is month, but don't remember what it was)

Thanks gunnut.

I guess it is easy enough to call Colt, so I did that.  He told me 1997 for a manufacture date.  He was pretty quick, so I have to assume he was using a computer, which raises the obvious question; why isn't that data in their on-line lookup.  That would have saved us both some time.
