I put kits together with all the parts needed for a build.
When I decide to put one or two together I just grab a box of parts and start.
It is much quicker to do this way.
If I am short parts I order the missing parts before they go on the shelf.
Anyway here are the two I did this morning.
one is a RRA upper the other is a DPMS.
The lowers are Anderson
They need to be lubed first.
Then, when I go to the range I will gather them up and take them for function testing.
Usually around 40 rounds in each.
I will sight them in later.

They are 5.56 Nato 1/9
Most of what I shoot is 55 grain ammo, I have a lot of it in storage.
Most of the barrels I have are 1/8, 1/9 and 1/12.
I do have 1/7 and ammo for it.

Well! Sorting out parts today and got tired of doing it.

I didn't feel like doing another retro.

SO! I grabbed another kit box for A2 carbine and got a receiver out of the safe and started on another build.

It has a RRA upper on it also. The one in the middle.

Enjoy!

I will swap out the lower receivers later with some (BCP) A2 Govt. marked lowers. Waiting on them to be made.

I think at least one of them needs a cut down barrel to 14.7/14.5 and a CAR stock.  NO?    I actually prefer the waffle stock to the CAR when shooting though.  At times.  I kind of go back and forth.  The CAR makes me crane my neck more.  Waffle is better for a more upright head position.

Mounting an optic on the carry handle will fix that.

Did the A2 carbine always have the M203 cut?
I have done some searching and found a few without, but I don't know if they are real or not.
Found it, it looks like they have always had the M203 cut on the barrel.

Thanks
Ron

I agree, I plan on doing 3 with the CAR stocks.
I have some stocks in a box for them.
I have some with ribs and some without. What would be best?

With the ribs.  Without makes it look like a cheap copy of a rubber coated Aluminum one on the XM-177.  Only those real ones look right without the ribs.    My BIL has an XM-177 with a honest to goodness colt rubber coated CAR stock.   So hot.

That is good news, I have more of the ones with ribs.

Thanks

I'll be honest, I don't really know if any of the early Colt CAR stocks that are plastic had ribs.  But here's a pic of a pretty old carbine and you can clearly see the front rib......

Picture of the Colt M16A2 carbine - Model 723.
I like the light weight barrel.
This looks like my next build.
Parts digging to begin again..

Ron

I went ahead and started digging for the parts kit.
Note: No matter how many times I check before taking a picture, it seems I always leave out a part.
Left out the A2 pistol grip and screw.
I plan on putting it together some time this week.
I am going to use one of the pencil barrels I had JT do for me.
I think it will be a good handy carbine.

Next build is:
#5 A2 Carbine build, Model 727 clone (My version)
Coming soon. Digging for parts.
Keep watching, check back.
Ron

I finally found enough parts to complete the 727.
I have found several pictures of the 727, but they have a different stock.
Some with the CAR stock,
some with the ribs
and some with the waffle look.
So I settled with the one with the rib.
I have all three, so if someone knows for sure please let me know.
(Looks like I forgot to put the bolt/carrier in the picture.)

#5 A2 Carbine build, Model 727 clone (My version)

I got started on the 727 this morning.
Every thing went great "UNTIL" I started to install the hand guards on the upper.
That is when I noticed the end cap and it was a later design.
So, I took it apart and changed out the end cap.

I will do the lower tomorrow. Maybe.......

This is a picture of the 727 upper so far.
Note: I was not much of a fan of the carbine until I started putting them together.
Now I am.

I need to order a batch of crush washers for the A2 builds.

Now! What to build for #6 ?  Running out of ideas.
I need some very good sets of pictures ( both sides) for the next build (s).

Thanks for looking.

I'm a huge fan of the carbine.  Until I shoot it past 25-30 meters.  My eyes aint what they used to be.

I have always loved the A2 sights.  My 20" A2 rifle is my go to rifle however I built an A2 carbine a few years back and shoot it often too.  Here is a pic of a target I shot with it about 3 weeks ago.  It shoots incredably well for a 16" carbine and open sights.

#6 should be a IDF 723(no bump) w/M4 bbl.  They have quite a few of these variants still in service.

Dealing with hurricane Harvey this week, so it may be a month or so before I can look for the parts.
I have everything I need to do it.
Thanks for the suggestion for #6.

God be with you.   Lots of prayers being said up here for everyone down there.  And JJ Watt using his influence to bring monetary aid.  About the only real upside to pro sports I guess.
