I need to pick up a couple A2 buttstocks.  There is some variability in color from dark to light gray in one's I have currently.  What is the preferred manufacturer for clone builds?

Personally, I prefer the White Oak Armament A2 buttstock assembly.

I have one on both of these.

Mind sharing the specifics on the A4?  One of the stocks will be going towards a similar clone.

Colt, Bushmaster, and Cav Arms are gtg. Color does vary.

Watch the EE for deals. That way you can see a pic/pics of color.

Windham Weaponry upper assembly with a Windham Weaponry carrying handle with a P&S Products M5 RAS. The lower is a McKay Enterprises with PSA internals with the exception of a M16A2 safety selector (with center fin removed).

DPMS does

Colt and Windham do NOT.

Those are the only 3 I know about. I took a DPMS and put it in a brand new Colt A4.

I have/had one. Overall well made but made of a true black color plastic resin material. Even has the hard cream colored foam inside. My one gripe is the mold sink lines that run the length just under the buffer tube.

I have one on a .22 build. It's actually pretty nice. Good solid feel to it.

Not so sure about the quality of the spring and buffer that came with it, but that's not an issue on a .22.
