Been keeping an eye out for a cheap a2 and saw this.  I'm not super interested in it because of the mismatch but is it legit?

My instinct is that it's a mix-master, and not original.

Its possible. I purchased a matchHBR police (CHP) trade in from CDNN that came with a gray upper and charcoal lower.  The bcg was stenciled with the serial number. I believe they were purchased after california had several shootings and the police were outgunned.  This was around 97 - 99 when colt was going from gray to black.  I suppose they didnt care about what they looked liked, they were police sales.  Ask the seller where it came from and if the bcg is serialized.

Never have seen a NiB Colt that didn't match.

The lower looks like it was painted.

Personally, I would look for a post ban match target and swap barrels. Be chaper, even with what "legit" M16A2 barrels go for.

Contact Ken Elmore at Specialized Armament Warehouse to see if he has any knowledge of this model. He validated my Colt AR6320 for me. SAW has special production weapons for law enforcement built by Colt several years ago. He may be able to shed some light on what this one is. Even calling Colt to verify the serial number and model number is a good idea.

I was just curious, just getting into the older guns.  I would want a matching gun if I was going to shell out big money.
