I put this A2 carbine together with parts. I bought the upper off of EE, did a little clean up work in it and added it to some spare parts I had. Other then the pencil barrel, it is an 727. I may switch that out for an M4 barrel to complete the package.i

It's good to see some Retro-heads here in the A2 forum.  What you got there OP is a clone of a Colt 6520 Gov't Carbine.  The early production ones were gray and later ones were dark-charcoal, then black.  I have all the pieces to build one at this time, but still waiting for a gray A2 lower from NDS.  Here are some pics I found on the interweb:

Smiling... so I created a 6520 without even trying. Thanks for the information on the model.

I have one similar to yours that I assembled last year.

What manufacturer's barrel did you use? The sight base looks cast.

it looks like a Olympic barrel, for a long time I thought Olympic only used those on 20 barrels, but I was wrong someone here corrected me and soon after I saw a Olympic at a pawn shop with the same cast fsb one a 16" barrel.

I'm not sure as it was a no name used on EE. I did not see any markings on the barrel, but I did nit look that close either.

If you want to complete the earlier look, get a CAR lock ring and Big Head F/A for maximum 80sness.

I did.

ETA: another thing you can do is get some elastic bands and a sling from Zahal and have a IDF clone.  My 723 is nearly identical to your setup except the field sights on the upper.

Not mine, but belongs to another member here:

Nice! I have pretty close to the same set up but with a 14.5" pinned M-4 profile barrel from Numrich.

Great looking builds, thanks for sharing. I have an extra A1 upper and lower I was thinking of moving the barrel to. That is why I was thinking of the M4 barrel as a replacement and allow me to get a two-for-one. Now seeing these builds, I'm second guessing taking it off.

I took it out to test fire and sight it in. When I got the upper the sights were all raised up, I set them back to zero and started over. I was able to dial right in with about 9 rounds. I did how ever run into FTF after the first magazine. It is definitely upper related, as the lower and magazines work fine with another upper. I did not have another BCG with me and I did not change out the gas rings like I normally do on used uppers. I'm always open to suggestions?

That looks magazine related.  What kind of mags are you using?   About the only time I had a jam with an AR was early on when I didn't know better I was using some mags that weren't all that great and that's exactly what happened.  Bought USGI mags and it never happened again.

USGI 30 round mags that worked in all my other AR 15's

Maybe your front sight base could be canted?

I had an AR years back with a clamp on type gas block and it failed to feed properly. It didnt gouge the casings like we see here though.

My best guess.

If what HKILLER suspicion is correct about barrel being an Olympic Arms, those barrels were notorious for having very rough or really tight chambers.  IIRC, Oly Arms barrels were chambered for .223 Rem and NOT 5.56 NATO.  If it's the chamber issue, it would not be cost effective to get the chamber polished or even reamed out to proper specifications.  IMHO, I'd just pulled that barrel out like you originally had planned and mount a quality M4 profile barrel and call it a 727 aka Black Hawk Down clone.
