So I picked up a NOS Colt M16A2  upper from the EE, not really knowing what I'd do with it. I think I am pretty settled on a 727 for my next project. If what I am wanting is a pretty good facsimile, and not necessarily an exact replica, is the following a good start? :

Colt M16A2 Upper

McKay A2 Lower

CAR Fiberlite stock kit, Model 1 Sales

6-hole handguards from somewhere

I figure with the BCG, LPK, and other small parts I'd just scour the EE for deals.

Also, is this a good choice for the barrel assembly for a 727? https://www.windhamweaponry.com/shopexd.asp?id=284

"Windham Weaponry 14.5 inch M4 barrel sub-assembly with a permanently attached extended A2 birdcage flash hider for AR15 / M16"

Thanks for any input......

Looks good to me.

If you can use your imagination to turn this into a 727, here is that Windham Weaponry barrel.

If you're willing to put up with an incorrect flash hider, then this is a good value:

Yep, I used one on my A1 build......I even contemplated buying another one and sending it to ADCO to have the "izzy" FH removed, and a A2 FH pinned and welded. By the time all is said and done, I'd have over 200 bucks into it.

What you described is almost identical to my 727 build.  I'm using a McKay A2 lower and I really like it.  I also have the same Windham barrel that you linked.  It's a great barrel and good shooter.  My only complaint about the barrel is that the pinned Windham extended A2 flash hider is a little longer then it needs to be.  I have a BCM A2X on my Colt and the Windham version is noticeably longer.

If this is the upper your buying it's not going to match the McKay lowers if that bother you.  NDS sells gray A2 lowers though if you want something that matches.

Nice!

And yes, that is the exact upper, just received it today. I used a McKay A2 with an FN upper on my 20" build, and the color matches good.......gonna break it out now and compare to the Colt upper.

I used the Nodak Spud A1 lower for mine. It also has a Colt 14.5" barrel with a BCM ext. A2 FH. The CAR stock is from Model 1 Sales, but the receiver extension is a 2-position from Nodak Spud. It also has the older style collar. CAR handguards are Colt 6-hole. It also has a Colt full-auto BCG.

Nice examples, all! I am finding it harder now to slowly acquire the parts.....I think I will making a lot of purchases in a short period of time here soon!

I know how that goes.  I always seem to start a build with the best intentions of taking it slow and all of the sudden I have the whole build on order.

Opinions on if I went with this barrel:

https://www.gunpartscorp.com/ad/1434710.htm

Not a 14.5 (dealbreaker?), and 1/9 instead of 1/7. I shoot 55 gr. only anyway, so that isn't big a con for me.

Just mulling over some options.

Anyone have experience with this exact barrel?

I've had a few and they have always worked fine for me.
My current 727 clone is a Bushmaster factory assembled A2 upper with that barrel.
My 723 clone has the DSA Inc. 1/7 14.5" M4 barrel. The FSB is a non "F" marked base. It's been good to me also.

My 2 all Colt clones.

My favorite AR configuration. You would be superised how different it feels with the skinny handguards.

The description says marked B MP but not chrome lined.

I had the impression Bushmaster chrome lined all their barrel.

Was the barrel you bought and used for your build chrome lined?

I used the same barrel on a previous build (pic posted on this thread), and mine is chrome-lined
