The title pretty well says it. I want a 20" barrel for an A2 assembly, but cannot find one without paying $300 or more for it. I am unwilling to pay that much. any ideas or suggestions from you guys would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Mark

I have a brand new bull barrel that could be turned down to the right dimensions, but where I got it and how cheap it was scares me. I don't want a barrel blowing up on me. This is a real odd barrel, with a .223 Wylde chamber.

If you're looking for a barrel, handguards, front sight, etc, Windham Weaponry has a 1/7 20" govt. profile kit for $270.

https://www.windhamweaponry.com/shopexd.asp?id=318#axzz3loGYSOfD

They also have just the barrel assembly for $215.

Are there Windham barrels as accurate as the old Bushmaster barrels? I'm curious since they are made in the same plant by mostly the same people.

I just purchased the $270 barrel kit along with their A2 buttstock kit for $80. Obviously the total was $350 and that's the amount I checked out for. Cool thing is, when I got my order confirmation, it said only $315. Checked my account statement and sure enough, $315. So they knocked 10% off the total for whatever reason, but I sure ain't compaining. Thought that was pretty awesome of them.

Right now they have a promo code (PHIL) through the end of April for 10% off and free ground shipping on orders of $50 or more....I'm guessing they applied that to your order...

The Windham barrels are made by Green Mountain.  I have a 14.5" that shoots really well.

Hmm, I didn't know that. I've always heard good things about GM barrels.

Does anyone know if Windham sells the completed(assembled) A2 upper? Their site is not exactly
user friendly for category searches.

You know thats actually what I would be interested in.  Not wanting an exact clone, just like the 20 inch simple upper with FSB.  I never really liked the carry handle so could just take it off. But that price is a little much.  Seems I would be better off doing it myself.

I think Green Mountain is the best bang for the buck. Button Rifled with prices just barely above hammer forged. I LOVE my Green Mountain 20" M16A2 barrel.

But they have several .223 Wylde barrels too....which will be my next purchase. Their customer service is legendary too.

This thread is very relevant to my interests.  I'm trying to build, update and/or buy an upper to use at my clubs High Power/Across the course matches.  The options I've identified are:

1) Buy a new or lightly used 20" A4 National Match style upper    I can get a new RRA NM A4 upper using the 18% off deal for about $791 + shipping.  I just found a complete lightly used RRA A4 NM rifle that I might be able to get the upper for around $700.

2) Build one from scratch.  I had not thought about this until recently as I expected to be able to find a lightly used one over the winter, but no such luck.  I need to build out a parts and price list, but I can't imagine I'm going to save any money vs a used one.

3) Update my existing RRA A2 (not National Match, 1:9 twist, I want to shoot 77g) with a new barrel and FF handguard while I figure out options 1 or 2.  I now have a spare KAC FF RAS so all I need is a 20" 1:7 twist barrel with, ideally, pinned FSB.  Problem is that there is very limited choice and supply.  Only new barrel I can find with an attached FSB is the Windham 20" for $215.  I see a few 20" gov profile "A2" barrels, but then I'd have to send off for pinning.  Any others I should be looking at?  I've searched gunbroker, armslist and much of the EE.

I'm going with option 3 for now.  Purchased the Windham 20" barrel, installing this afternoon.  Then decide option 1 or 2 later.

I replaced the barrel and added the KAC FF RAS this weekend, thread here.  Need to get a front sling adapter installed and get out and shoot it.
