Hey all,

I'd post a pic of it in it's stripped nature, but I'm out of town this weekend.

I have an A2 upper, and I'm trying to figure out what I should build with it.  I've toyed with the idea of doing a Me Version of the 6530.  But, I've been brain farting a lot lately, so I thought I'd come to you all for ideas.  I'm open to pretty much anything!

Colt / Clone model 727.   It is one of my favorites.

20" A2.  Everything else is a compromise.

Vote for #3. I have a 14.5" M4 clone, a 723 clone(14.5" pencil barrel) and a 727 clone(14.5" M4 profile barrel).  The 727 is my favorite of the three.

I guess it all depends on how many Deuces you're planning on building.  But IMHO, you gotta have a rifle and a carbine.  Here's a picture of my Colt 727 clone for inspiration:

Making it anything less than a standard 20" A2 would be insufficient.

I will finally give my two cents worth. As much of a fan of the 20" A2 as I am, .....

I am also a big fan of the 727. My recommendation is the 727.

Loving the ideas so far everyone!  Keep them coming!

Here's the stripped A2.....and some fudge to make the rest of you jealous.....

While I could be persuaded to do an 20" rifle, here's why I'm not leaning that way too much....here's my last A2 build......

Seasoned is a good description!  I'm going to use that from now on!

I oft collect parts and use them in a build a couple years later (and sometimes a good sale can't be passed up).  A couple years back, Apex had stripped M16A2 uppers (it's a Colt, btw).  I thought about having it refinished, but left it alone.  It's a good story to (A) talk about the rifle like we are here and (B) it being USGI surplus, reminds me someone likely carried that thing to hell and back.

Aaaah, so you already have a 20".   Well than say no more.  A 727 would be great!!!  I've just learned to be prejudiced against carbines because my eyes don't do well with them any more.

Since you already have a 20" A2, then I would do a 727.  If I ever snag another A2 upper that's what I'm gonna do.

Do an A2 with one of those FN 18" CHF Barrels that Brownells carries for them.

Yeah, a shorter barreled rifle I think would be a sweet deal.  An 18" LW profiled barrel, heck yeah.  Or even a 16"er.   A rifle in a carbine sized package.

Is that fixed stock carbine you're talking?  That's one idea I've been tossing around.

How about a A2 Middie !  ?    Stock could be fixed A2 or a UBR.  Slap on rails or a keymod handie, and you be cookin' the pig !

YES.  They feel and look the best to me.  I like an A1 stock with an A2 buttplate.

Put one together, a fixed stock carbine with field sights and lightweight middy barrel.  If I can get my hands on the parts I want to build a duplicate but with A2 elevation drum. Love this carbine. Points quick. And super soft shooter.
Since you already have a rifle and seem to be hesitant about a 727....

Maybe someone can approve my pics? Or am I posting it wrong?

Actually only had it out once since I finished it. Minute of pumpkin easy.  Started out with the A1 grip.

Since the braintrust of this forum has been invaluable, I figured I should post an update on this A2 project.

Last week I was reminded of this weekends gun show.  I decided I would let my trip there help me figure out my next AR project, this A2 or my M16A4 clone.  For whatever reason, I have been unable to find a USGI A2 stock (I have no such trouble finding utg Chinese knock offs).  So not finding one of those this weekend, and only being able to pick up one lower at the show (would have gotten another, but didn't go back this aft), I decided to do the A2!

Here's where I'm at on it.  I still need to pick up a barrel and associated parts, BCG, and charging handle....all easy enough.  I do have two sets of furniture (and who doesn't have a pile of A2 grips?).....which leads me to where I'm taking my sweet time getting at.

I did decide to build a fixed stock carbine.  And as I said, I have two sets of furniture for it.  The regular set consists of standard handguards, and an A1 trapdoor stock.  The other is standard Magpul MOE, both rifle stock and handguards.  I'm leaning on going with the regular set, but if anyone can change my mind to the Magpul, I'm up for it.  And even if I put one set on tonight or tomorrow (what I'm doing when not "working"), it's not like it's hard to change.
